AI-Ready Graduate framework adds 30 skills for K–12

The International Society for Transforming Education has released an expanded “Profile of an AI-Ready Graduate,” adding 30 aligned skills across six student roles and aiming to help K–12 educators teach practical, higher-order use of AI in classrooms.
By the time the annual conference crowd in Orlando, Florida settled into the next session, one message had already been set in motion: teaching students about artificial intelligence won’t stop at basic definitions.
On Sunday. the International Society for Transforming Education released an expanded version of its “Profile of an AI-Ready Graduate. ” a framework meant to help K–12 educators teach students how to work with AI. The updated release, developed with support from the nonprofit Britebound, goes beyond basic literacy and toward higher-order skills.
The organization says the framework identifies six roles students should practice when using AI tools: Learner, Researcher, Synthesizer, Problem Solver, Connector and Storyteller.
Richard Culatta, the CEO of the organization, framed the new version as more than a technical add-on. “Today. we are releasing a fully fleshed out version. 30 skills aligned with each of these roles to help model using AI to support our uniquely human skills. ” he said. “Humans have always used tools to accomplish human tasks. AI is no different. but when we teach AI as a way to support us being better at being human. it is far more relevant and far more meaningful than when we just talk about what AI is.”.
The timing matters. The announcement came one year after the initial rollout of the Profile. Where the original framework leaned toward basic technical understanding of AI. the updated version spells out what those skills can look like in practice—complete with role-by-role descriptions. classroom examples. and specific articulations for middle and high school.
The organization positions the framework as something designed to slot into existing teaching rather than replace it. It says the Profile is intended to layer on top of work educators are already doing. and it aligns with the organization’s existing student standards and “Transformational Learning Principles.”.
