On the latest Smart Home Insider podcast episode, Jimmy Lin of ADT breaks down how security systems are moving beyond alarms—highlighting ADT’s Live Light smart sign and its DIY Blu system—while also addressing why ADT still doesn’t support Matter and what tha

For people shopping for smart home security, it can feel like the same promise gets repeated—cameras, sensors, and alerts. But in this week’s Smart Home Insider episode. the conversation shifts to something more practical: what security gear can actually do in the moments that matter. and how it needs to fit into the wider ecosystem of a connected home.

Joining as guest host for the security-focused discussion is Jimmy Lin, Vice President of Product Management at ADT. The episode walks through what’s new across smart home tech. then settles into the security side in a way that’s hard to miss: devices shouldn’t just protect your home and family—they should help other systems. and even people responding to an emergency. find what they need.

The episode starts with updates outside the security category. Bose has introduced a new lifestyle collection of smart speakers. featuring AirPlay support and designs aimed at a more upscale look. Govee follows with two new releases. beginning with the Govee TV Backlight 3. which uses an updated hybrid lens camera to synchronize a light strip positioned around the television with what’s on-screen. Govee also released a new G25 filament-style bulb. built around a cool double-helix filament at its center that supports different colors. not only tunable hues of white.

When the discussion turns back to security, Lin digs into ADT releases designed to make help more immediate. That includes ADT’s Live Light smart sign. built to help first responders find a home. and ADT’s DIY Blu system. The emphasis isn’t just on detecting problems—it’s on making security feel usable across real-life situations.

Lin also expands the focus beyond the basics of intrusion protection. He runs through scenarios where security devices can identify anomalies inside the home. The examples include a cupboard door that doesn’t open and the situation where someone doesn’t arrive home at an expected time.

Then the episode tackles Matter, the smart-home standard that’s been reshaping what buyers expect from devices. The key point: ADT still doesn’t support Matter. The discussion moves into whether ADT needs to support Matter and what users should look for now.

On a podcast where the hardware details arrive quickly—AirPlay-enabled speakers. a TV backlight synced through an updated hybrid lens camera. and a filament-style bulb with a double-helix—security ends up framed as something equally tangible. Not just a notification system. but a set of devices meant to integrate. interpret. and respond when the household needs them most.

  1. I’m confused, ADT still not doing Matter means I gotta redo everything if I buy a new hub? Like why would they drag their feet on that. The live light sign for first responders sounds kinda cool though.

  2. Wait, the Live Light smart sign is for people responding in emergencies, but isn’t that just like… a regular motion light? I mean if responders are already trained to find addresses, what am I missing. Also Blu system sounds like it’s gonna cost more than my thermostat so I’m not buying that.

  3. Matter support is always the big thing everyone says to check and ADT being “no” is a red flag. But then they’re talking about cameras/sensors/alerts and “helps other systems” which sounds like marketing talk to me. Do the Bose speakers and Govee lights even connect to ADT or is that just random tech they mentioned. I hate that all these smart home products act like the same promise over and over.
