A24 drops high-octane first look at Onslaught

A24 releases – A24 has released a trailer preview for its new desert action film “Onslaught,” starring Adria Arjona and Rebecca Hall, with a release date set for September 4, 2026. The plot centers on a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers and a dedicated Arm

The trailer hits fast. In “Onslaught,” the first signs of trouble aren’t subtle—they’re a squad of genetically engineered super soldiers breaking loose in the desert, leaving chaos behind them.

A24’s new preview, released Tuesday, frames the movie like a sprint toward violence: when the rogue team goes off the rails, a “badass” Army sniper is pulled into a fight that quickly turns personal. Her mission, the trailer suggests, isn’t just to stop a threat—it’s to protect her young daughter.

Adria Arjona is the central force in the cast, starring alongside Rebecca Hall. The film also includes Dan Stevens, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, and Alex Pereira, with Drew Starkey appearing alongside Hall.

The director is Adam Wingard, and A24 says audiences can catch “Onslaught” starting September 4, 2026.

A24 has built a reputation for taking swings that don’t always match Hollywood’s usual formulas—movies made with budgets that aren’t extremely high. yet still often perform well at the box office. “Onslaught. ” from the trailer’s energy. appears to aim for that same lane: action-forward. built around a premise people recognize. but with room for escalation and attitude rather than the usual motion-checked template.

The preview leans into a familiar hook—“super soldier gone wrong”—but keeps the focus on the underdog angle with Arjona leading the way. The trailer’s central promise is protection under pressure: not just surviving what breaks loose in the desert, but pushing through it to get to her daughter.

That choice to spotlight a weaponized conflict—engineered soldiers unleashed. an Army sniper forced to unleash hell—pairs with A24’s broader history. “Warfare” is cited as one of the most impressive war movies. and “Civil War” is described as a lot of fun. even if it runs a bit crazy at times. With “Onslaught,” the expectation being set is more of the same high-energy intensity.

For now, the key details are clear and uncomplicated: a rogue genetically engineered squad, a desert that turns into a battlefield, and Arjona’s sniper fighting through the chaos with her young daughter at the center.

And with the release date already set for September 4, 2026, the only question left is whether the adrenaline from this first look translates into the kind of crowd-pleasing momentum that A24 has managed before.

  1. Super soldiers in the desert is such a random combo but I’m kinda here for it. If the sniper is the main person then where’s the daughter in all this, like is she in danger the whole time? Also A24 usually makes weird stuff so hopefully it’s not boring.

  2. Rebecca Hall being in it makes it automatically a prestige movie right? Like she’ll carry it even if the rest is just explosions and “rogue squad” nonsense. I read “genetically engineered” and instantly thought it was some real Army testing thing and now I’m confused.

  3. A24 really said “high-octane” like they’re gonna do Fast & Furious but with super soldiers? The trailer sounds like every action movie ever but with a daughter motivation, which is fine I guess. I’m also seeing Dan Stevens and Michael Biehn and I’m like… why is this cast so serious for a desert shooty shooty thing. If it’s out Sept 4, 2026, that’s foreverrr, they should’ve dropped more plot than “badasses unleashed”.
