Spurs crush Timberwolves in Game 6, set Thunder clash

Spurs eliminate – San Antonio advanced to the Western Conference Finals with a 139-109 Game 6 victory over Minnesota, finishing the series in six games. Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox led a Spurs team that broke its franchise postseason 3-point mark.
MINNEAPOLIS — The Spurs didn’t just win Game 6. They buried it.
By the time the fourth quarter had tightened its grip. Anthony Edwards was already on his way to the bench to offer congratulations to the San Antonio side that was clearly moving on.. Minnesota star Anthony Edwards summed it up simply afterward: “I just tip my hat to them.. They were just the better team.”
San Antonio made it official with a 139-109 rout on Friday night to close out the second-round series in six games. The Spurs will meet the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 on Monday night after Oklahoma City swept its first two series.
Stephon Castle delivered one of the defining performances of the night. scoring 32 points with 11 rebounds and continuing a run of standout production from San Antonio’s backcourt.. Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs never allowed the Timberwolves to settle.. The result was a dominant offensive burst and a series that San Antonio controlled from start to finish.
Fox helped pace the scoring with 21 points and nine assists, while rookie Dylan Harper added 15 points off the bench. San Antonio also set a franchise postseason record for 3-pointers made, going 18 for 38 from deep.
Wembanyama had been the focal point of Minnesota’s preparation. and he still delivered even with the Wolves doing their best to contain him.. He bounced back from his stunning Game 4 ejection with a monster Game 5 and then put up 19 points in 27 minutes in the elimination win.. His night looked quieter on the scoreboard than it did in earlier games. but he remained a constant deterrent in the paint and repeatedly turned defense into transition opportunities.
Asked about what comes next, Wembanyama kept his focus tight. “Of course we’re confident, but we need to keep the right confidence level,” he said. “Right now, I’m not even thinking about it. I’m just thinking about recovering.”
The Spurs guards did the damage they’ve been known for during this run — size. sharp decision-making. and shooting that Minnesota couldn’t consistently survive.. Castle converted his first five 3-pointers and finished 11 for 16 from the floor.. Fox went 3 for 3 from deep, and Julian Champagnie drilled four 3s among his 18 points.
Minnesota fought with what it had, but the timing never arrived.. Anthony Edwards finished with 24 points on 9-for-26 shooting.. Terrence Shannon Jr.. provided another spark with 21 points, and Naz Reid added 18 off the bench.. Still, the Spurs’ switch-heavy defense kept disrupting Minnesota’s rhythm, while Julius Randle managed just three points on 1-for-8 shooting.
For Wolves coach Chris Finch, the end result felt like a familiar limit being reached. “It just felt like we kind of ran out of bullets as this series went on,” he said.
San Antonio’s authority showed in the margins. The Spurs outscored Minnesota by 97 points across the series and never once trailed by double digits, a sign of how cleanly they imposed their pace and style. They also breezed past Portland Trail Blazers in five games in the first round.
Edwards briefly joined the Spurs group in celebration on the way to the bench. but Minnesota’s exit carried heavier echoes for fans who’ve watched this pattern emerge in big moments.. Last year. Minnesota trailed by 33 points at halftime in a 30-point loss to Oklahoma City in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.. In 2024. they were down by 29 at the break in a 21-point defeat to Dallas in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.
Now. the Spurs move forward with the kind of momentum that forces the next opponent to plan for a team playing at full speed.. Monday night’s Game 1 against the Thunder will be the next test — and. for San Antonio. it arrives right after a statement win that left no doubt about who belonged in the Western Conference Finals.

139-109 is insane lol. Spurs came out like it was personal.
Wait Game 6 already? I thought it was still close last night. Also Minnesota scoring that little… yikes. Congrats to San Antonio I guess.
Edwards saying “tip my hat” sounds like he already knew they were done. But didn’t Minnesota have home court? Like how do you get buried that bad and just call it better team??
Spurs hitting 18 threes on 38 tries?? That’s like 50/50 which seems fake unless the defense was basically asleep. Also I’m confused about the Thunder thing—so OKC swept both series and now they’re just waiting? That seems too easy.
