CIA blasts Rand Paul subpoena over COVID origin claims

The CIA criticized Sen. Rand Paul and the Senate Homeland Security Committee after subpoenaing a CIA agent tied to claims about COVID-19 origins.
A dispute over the origins of COVID-19 erupted into a direct clash between the CIA and Sen. Rand Paul, with the agency calling the subpoena process “dishonest political theater.”
The Central Intelligence Agency condemned Paul and the Senate Homeland Security Committee for subpoenaing a CIA officer to testify about allegations that the U.S.. government covered up how the virus began.. In a statement. CIA Director of Public Affairs Liz Lyons protested that the committee pursued testimony from a CIA officer without first notifying the agency. even though the committee had already obtained closed-door testimony from the same individual.
Lyons said the witness appearing before lawmakers was not acting as a whistleblower seeking to disclose information independently. but was testifying because of Paul’s subpoena.. She framed the hearing as an aggressive use of congressional power aimed at driving a political narrative rather than pursuing what the agency called evidence-based conclusions.
The CIA’s position, Lyons added, is that COVID-19 most likely originated from a lab leak. She argued that efforts to challenge or undermine that assessment are disingenuous, suggesting the congressional push was aimed at disputing the agency’s judgment rather than evaluating new facts.
The latest controversy sits inside a broader. politically charged debate that has persisted since the pandemic began—especially over competing theories about the virus’s origin and how U.S.. officials handled early intelligence and research.. Paul has repeatedly raised questions about the role of federal health leadership in shaping understanding of the outbreak. and he has singled out former NIAID director Dr.. Anthony Fauci.
Paul has accused Fauci of involvement in a cover-up of the origins of COVID-19. Fauci has denied those allegations. Paul’s renewed push, as described in his posts this week, continued even as federal officials have remained focused on the question of what can be supported by the available evidence.
In a separate development. a CIA whistleblower. James Erdman III. accused Fauci of meddling in the agency’s investigation into the pandemic’s origins.. Erdman alleged that Fauci worked to sabotage the lab-leak theory.. That claim has fed into Paul’s argument that there was improper interference and. in turn. helped shape the committee’s decision to compel testimony.
Paul. for his part. said he would press forward with additional whistleblower testimony before his committee. emphasizing his intent to “uncover the truth” surrounding what he called the “great COVID cover-up.” The clash with the CIA underscores how congressional oversight over national security and public health can quickly become a proxy battle over interpretation—where intelligence assessments. whistleblower claims. and political messaging collide.
Rand Paul CIA subpoena Senate Homeland Security Committee COVID-19 origin probe lab leak theory James Erdman whistleblower Anthony Fauci cover-up Liz Lyons statement
so the CIA is mad they got called out lol ok
wait i thought the CIA said it WASNT a lab leak and now theyre saying it was?? im so confused by all this honestly. like make up your mind because regular people cant keep up with what they keep changing every few months.
Rand Paul has been saying this for years and everyone called him crazy and now look. The same people on tv who laughed at him are real quiet right now. I remember watching those hearings with Fauci and Rand Paul just kept pushing and Fauci got all flustered every single time. That tells you everything. You dont get that nervous unless your hiding something. The CIA calling it theater is exactly what someone says when they dont want the truth coming out and honestly at this point I dont trust any of these agencies to tell us anything real. They covered up the whole thing from day one and now their mad someone is actually asking questions. This country deserves answers.
honestly why is rand paul even allowed to subpoena CIA people isnt that like illegal or something. pretty sure you cant just do that to government agents. someone should look into whether he broke any laws here because this seems way out of bounds for a senator to be doing.
