76ers’ Jaylen Brown recalls overwhelming moment after learning of stunning trade

With the Philadelphia 76ers trading for star Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics, there is no denying that it has been an emotional time for the forward after being with one team for 10 seasons. As Brown and others lead the 76ers this upcoming season, he would keep it real in his introductory press conference about learning about the deal.

Speaking with the media on Thursday, he would say that he threw his phone across the room when hearing that he was dealt to Philadelphia, and that stars Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe reached out to him.

“I’m not even sure — when I first got traded, I just threw my phone across the room,” Brown said with a laugh, via Underdog NBA. “I think [Tyrese] Maxey reached out to me first. He reached out and was like, ‘I know there’s a lot of stuff going on right now. But we’re excited to have you.’ Maxey and V.J. [Edgecombe] [reached out] around the same time.”

In the weeks following, Brown would keep it real on how he felt throughout the process, saying that there has been a “lot of emotions,” according to The Boston Globe.

“It’s been a lot of emotions,” Brown said. “It’s been a process; to be honest, I’m still processing, to some degree, one, the excitement of coming to a new city, new place, new expectations, new energy; then, also, leaving a place you’ve been for a very, very long time. I’ve been in Boston for 10 years.”

I was there a third of my life,” Brown continued. “It’s just a process, just like everybody else has to deal with certain things. … It’s just been public; that’s the only difference.”

At any rate, Brown looks to start a new chapter in his NBA career, now with the 76ers.
