Laura Clery says a 600-pound fridge slammed into her and pinned her against a counter while she was preparing for bed, trapping her and leaving her unable to move or breathe—until firefighters broke through her garage door and lifted it off her.
It happened so fast she couldn’t even move once the weight landed.
Laura Clery. 39. says she was getting ready for bed when the massive fridge “slammed into me and pinned me against the counter.” In a video shared on Instagram. she called it “the most terrifying night” of her life—and said her “biggest fear came true” after she was “very seriously hurt and stuck while home alone with my two young kids.”.
Clery described the moment in stark detail: “I couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe right.” She wrote that it was “impossible to get off,” and that she could “feel myself losing consciousness.”
“The kids were in the house,” she added. “I genuinely didn’t know if I was getting out of that alive.”
The only reason she believes she made it through that first stretch. she said. was simple chance: “Thank God my phone was in my pocket and I was able to call 911.” She also said she was grateful the fridge didn’t hit her children. “Thank God it didn’t fall on my kids. It took three firefighters to lift it off me. I’m still shaking.”.
Clery shared clips from the rescue. Firefighters carried her out of the house and into an ambulance while she wore a neck brace. She later thanked them, saying they arrived quickly and broke through her garage door to reach her.
In her account, the rescue turned into a race against what could have happened next. She wrote that three firefighters “pushed a 600 pound fridge off of me and got me safely to the trauma unit before things got worse.”
Afterward, Clery praised the way they handled everything. “They were calm, kind and just handled everything like absolute heroes!” she said.
She also said her body was in immediate shock, then relief—adding that it was “right after the fentanyl hit and all of my pain [went] away (instantly).” Even then, her gratitude stayed fixed on what mattered most: her kids being safe and alive, and the fact she wasn’t trapped longer than she was.
Clery wrote, “I keep thinking about how differently this could have gone and I just feel overwhelming gratitude.” She said there were “No broken bones,” that “my kids are okay and safe,” and that she can walk again: “I’m so lucky!”
And even with the danger now behind her, she keeps returning to the same detail—the unbearable stillness after it pinned her, and the moment the door broke, the firefighters got to her, and she could finally breathe again.
