Ella Bright Shrugs Off Nearly 10-Year Age Gap

Ella Bright, 19, says she knew exactly what she was signing up for when she led Prime Video’s “Off Campus,” including the nearly 10-year age gap with Belmont Cameli. Speaking on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, Bright argued she never felt “left out” on s

Ella Bright didn’t dodge the conversation about her age. She met it head-on.

When the 19-year-old actress appeared on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast on Tuesday. she made clear she knew what she was signing up for as the star of Prime Video’s new romance drama “Off Campus.” Bright plays lead character Hannah Wells. and she’s tackling the show with the confidence of someone who already understood the scrutiny that would follow.

During the conversation, Bright addressed concerns about her age while filming. She said she was only 18 when she filmed the steamy Season 1. On screen, her love interest is played by Belmont Cameli, who is nearly 10 years her senior. Those numbers, and what they can mean to audiences, were front and center.

But for Bright, it wasn’t a problem. She told host Amanda Hirsch that from the chemistry reads onward, she had enough information to understand what the role required—and that she quickly fell for the part and the scripts.

“I came into this job and during the chemistry reads with more than enough information and knowledge and understanding of what this role required and the show. ” Bright said. “And I just fell in love with Hannah and these scripts immediately. There was never a question that I wouldn’t want to do this.”.

Bright acknowledged that the concern exists, but she pushed back on the idea that the age gap created any kind of divide. She said she “not once” felt “left out from being younger than everybody.”

“We’re all such a family and like everyone was just more than perfect,” she added. “And I couldn’t be more comfortable on this set with these people. So, it is funny when they say that. I’m like, ‘I’m good.’”

The exchange came with a clear message: the “Off Campus” experience, for Bright, wasn’t defined by discomfort—it was defined by belonging.

And it looks like that dedication didn’t go unnoticed by viewers. “Off Campus” has become an overnight success for Prime Video, joining the streamer’s biggest launches. The freshman season is now Prime Video’s No. 3 most-viewed debut season in history, beating “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”

Season 1 earned 36 million viewers worldwide in its first 12 days, including two full weekends on Prime Video, based on internal data from the streamer.

Amazon MGM Studios global TV head Peter Friedlander celebrated the response in a statement: “Obsession is officially in session at Prime Video. thanks to the fans who have embraced ‘Off Campus. ’” he said. “We couldn’t be happier to see such a passionate community come together around Season 1 of creator Louisa Levy and co-showrunner Gina Fattore’s interpretation of Elle Kennedy’s beloved story. When you earn trust and deliver for an audience. they show up — and they’ve certainly done so for ‘Off Campus.’”.

Prime Video is already looking ahead, too. Season 2 of “Off Campus,” which was greenlit before the series debut in mid-May, is set to begin production soon.

  1. I mean she’s 19 and he’s like 28? That’s still kinda weird to me even if she says she wasn’t left out. Like the title says she’s shrugging it off, but I feel like people will still side-eye it.

  2. Wait I thought the show was older than that? Off Campus sounds like a whole college thing, so I assumed everyone involved was like 25+. But if she was 18 filming then… yeah that makes the casting convo even louder. Also “steamy”?? Prime Video really just be putting anything out.

  3. This is one of those stories where the actress says it’s fine and everyone’s supposed to just accept it. She says she “knew what she was signing up for” but that doesn’t magically make it not a big age gap. I don’t even know who Belmont Cameli is so I’m like… did they just need a famous older guy for the chemistry? Either way the internet’s gonna talk.
