‘Fuze’ (2026)

If you’re looking for a competently made heist movie that doesn’t try to be anything more than fun to watch, director David Mackenzie (“Hell or High Water”) has cooked up a corker. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays the head of a bomb squad sent to the heart of London to defuse a bomb, while Theo James heads up a group using the bomb as a distraction while they pull off a giant bank heist. There are bombs, guns, twists, and a gaggle of British actors who we’ve seen pretending to be American in so many Hollywood films. What more could you ask for?

‘Carrie’ (1976)

Salem native Mike Flanagan is bringing horror fans a new miniseries based on Stephen King’s debut novel to Prime Video in October. But before that arrives, it’s a great time to revisit the story that turned King from a small-town novelist into a literary superstar. Director Brian De Palma is a Hitchcock obsessive, and proved himself a worthy heir to the master of suspense with this adaptation, building hair-raising tension in the moments before meek oddball Carrie (Sissy Spacek) is doused in pig’s blood at her prom. After the unbearable buildup to that moment, the hell that breaks loose when Carrie’s telekinetic powers are unleashed is inevitable.

New TV Shows Streaming

‘The Paper’ Season 2

Season 2 is usually when a sitcom shakes off the growing pains and finds its groove. Sometimes you have to wait a little bit longer, though. That seems to be the case with “The Paper,” which remains as pleasant and amusing as it was in Season 1, but still isn’t firing on all cylinders. The spinoff of “The Office,” set at the fictional newspaper the Toledo Truth Teller, has some amusing characters in its newsroom, like Travis (Eric Rahill) and corporate stooge Ken (Tim Key). Others, like Adam (Boston native Alex Edelman), are largely anonymous, or are given tedious plots, like Nicole (Ramona Young). There’s enough promise that I hope “The Paper” isn’t canceled, but it’s still waiting for its breakout moment.

‘Slow Horses’ Season 6

Watching Gary Oldman (“The Dark Knight,” “Darkest Hour”) in any role is a treat. So it’s not surprising that Oldman’s turn as a surly intelligence officer in the Apple TV series “Slow Horses” has remained an underrated delight, even in its sixth season, which premieres on Apple TV+ this week. Based on the “Slough House” series of novels by Mick Herron, Oldman plays Jackson Lamb, the head and heart of an MI5 department full of rejects and problem agents known as Slough House. Over five seasons, the department has proven competent enough to make a boatload of enemies, and the new season finds them being picked off one by one.

‘The Traitors: New Blood’

For those unfamiliar with Peacock’s game of social Darwinism, “The Traitors” plays out like a big game of Mafia or Werewolves, with contestants split into the “Faithful” — who try to complete missions and win a grand prize — and a much smaller number of “Traitors,” who conspire to eliminate the Faithful contestants undetected and claim the prize as their own. Unlike last season’s celeb-filled cast, this year’s theme is “Average Americans,” with a cast of unknowns including Mattapan-raised airline employee Tomica Adams, who suggests she may want to “kill a few folks” in the Season 5 trailer.
