3 teams win big as WNBA marks rare feat

3 teams – A Minnesota Lynx rout, a Dallas Wings win over the Las Vegas Aces, and a Golden State Valkyries victory over the Los Angeles Sparks delivered the first three 20+ point wins on a single WNBA day since September 1, 2017.

The WNBA’s Monday triple-header felt almost too synchronized: Minnesota, Dallas and Golden State all hit their stride in brutal fashion, turning three separate games into one shared talking point.

The Minnesota Lynx handled the Portland Fire by 33 points. The Dallas Wings beat the Las Vegas Aces by 30. The Golden State Valkyries, in a matchup with the Los Angeles Sparks, won by 20.

It’s rare enough that ESPN Insights pointed to a specific date: it was the first time since September 1, 2017 that three teams won by at least 20 points in a single day.

The last time the league produced that kind of triple blowout came when the Sparks beat the Atlanta Dream by 25 points, the Lynx defeated the Chicago Sky by 23 points, and the Phoenix Mercury blasted the Connecticut Sun by 20 points.

Minnesota’s performance carried its own momentum. The Lynx notched their ninth win in 10 outings, with seven players finishing in double digits. Natasha Howard led the way with 18 points. Nia Coffey contributed 15 points along with five rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks.

The Lynx also moved forward with a notable absence. They improved to 11-3 to lead the team standings even without Napheesa Collier, who is still recovering from an ankle injury.

Dallas didn’t just win—it beat a familiar opponent. The Wings defeated the Aces for the second time this season, improving to 9-5. Arike Ogunbowale produced 22 points, four rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Azzi Fudd added 19 points on 8-of-9 field goals. Piage Bueckers contributed 10 points, five rebounds and seven assists in just 24 minutes.

Golden State added the final piece to the rare-day puzzle by keeping its own momentum going. The Valkyries, in their second year in the WNBA, notched their third straight victory and tied the Wings at 9-5.

Gabby Williams led their scoring with 16 points plus four rebounds. Kaila Charles stepped up off the bench with 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The sequence mattered: three games, three double-digit scoring clusters, and three wide margins that pushed the day into a historical bookmark—one the WNBA hadn’t reached since September 1, 2017.

  1. So wait, they say it’s the first time since 2017 that 3 teams won by 20+ in a day… but didn’t they do that like all the time? Idk WNBA stats always confuse me. Also Portland is always getting cooked lately.

  2. The Lynx were missing Napheesa Collier and still smoked everybody? That sounds like stat padding lol. Like if your star is out and you still win by 30+ that’s either a weak opponent or the other team wasn’t trying. I’m not hating I just don’t fully buy the hype.

  3. I saw something about Dallas beating the Aces AGAIN and I was like wow Arike must’ve gone off. 7 assists is wild but 9-5 isn’t that great… unless everybody’s just mid this season? Golden State doing a “rare day” thing with the Sparks too feels like ESPN really wanted a good headline. Either way congrats to the teams, but I’m side-eyeing how rare it is because WNBA games feel unpredictable every week.
