2 Pedestrians Hospitalized After Wrong-Way Crash in Cave Creek

Two pedestrians were hospitalized after a wrong-way crash in Cave Creek on April 3, according to a Misryoum newsroom report.
The incident involved a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling in the wrong direction that hit three adult pedestrians, eight parked motorcycles and a stopped GMC pickup truck. It happened around 7:11 p.m., when the truck collided with several vehicles as it left the parking lot of Harold’s Corral.
Misryoum newsroom reported that as the Chevrolet pickup truck exited Harold’s Corral in Cave Creek, the driver entered Cave Creek Road in the wrong direction, according to a written statement from Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson David Moyer. The statement did not clarify whether the vehicles and pedestrians were in the parking lot or on the street, which—honestly—matters a lot for understanding how far into the roadway the impact really went.
Deputies also reportedly noticed signs of alcohol impairment in the suspected driver, Moyer said. The details of what led investigators to that conclusion weren’t expanded on, but it’s the kind of piece that usually becomes central as the case develops.
Two of the pedestrians were taken to a hospital after suffering serious injuries, including head injuries and a “significant abdominal laceration,” Moyer said. The hospital determined the injuries were life-threatening, he added.
Harold’s Corral hosted activities for Cave Creek Bike Week, according to its website. Misryoum newsroom reported that Moyer said there were bike week activities all weekend in Cave Creek. This was an ongoing investigation, he said—so for now, the picture stays incomplete, even as people around the area try to make sense of how something like this could unfold so fast.
