The Powerball jackpot climbed to $113 million ahead of the Wednesday, May 20 drawing, and for players holding tickets right now, the waiting is the hard part. The cash value is listed at $49.6 million.
Powerball says the jackpot has been hit almost 200 times since the lottery began in 1992. Among the winners, the states with the most Powerball wins are Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
The most recent Powerball jackpot was won on May 2, when two players—one in Texas and one in Florida—split a $20 million prize.
For 2026, those results brought the number of Powerball winners to seven, tying the number of winners in 2025.
The May 20 drawing will take place on Wednesday night. Winning numbers will be posted after the lottery drawing at 11 p.m. ET.
Players don’t just watch the jackpot, though. Powerball tickets are $2 per play, sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets can be purchased at authorized and licensed retailers such as local convenience stores, gas stations, or grocery stores. In some states, tickets can also be bought online depending on local jurisdiction.

To play, players pick six numbers: five white balls numbered 1 to 69, and one red Powerball ranging from 1 to 26. A “Power Play” option for $1 can be added to increase non-jackpot winnings. The Power Play multiplier can be 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X. Players who don’t want to choose can use the “Quick Pick” option for the computer to select the numbers.
Powerball drawings are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights. If no one wins the jackpot, the cash prize increases.
