Zuckerberg tells Meta staff no more layoffs this year
no more – Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a company-wide note that he does not expect more company-wide layoffs this year, as 10% of staff were cut. He thanked employees leaving that day, acknowledged the company aims to improve clarity, and tied the next phase of rest
Mark Zuckerberg spent part of his message doing two jobs at once: offering Meta employees reassurance, and reminding them that change is still coming.
In an internal, company-wide note, Zuckerberg said he does not expect any additional company-wide layoffs this year, even as 10% of staff head for the exits. He wrote that he was grateful to the people leaving today for the work they contributed to Meta.
Zuckerberg described the departures as difficult. “It’s always sad to say goodbye” to those who have helped build Meta, his memo reads. He added. “I feel the weight of that. and I’m spending a lot of time making sure we manage this as well as possible. ” and the message was first posted by the New York Times.
The timing matters: Zuckerberg’s assurance is specifically about “company-wide” layoffs this year. That choice of words leaves room for other moves inside the company, including targeted cuts against specific parts of Meta. Reality Labs—Meta’s hardware division—saw layoffs earlier this year.
Meta’s HR chief had previously said the company is not ruling out further layoffs and that she does not know what the company’s ideal size is. Meta declined to comment.
Zuckerberg’s note also tried to steer attention toward Meta’s next bet: AI. He called AI the most consequential technology of their lifetimes and said the field is highly competitive. While he said Meta is well-positioned to do well, he stressed that success is not guaranteed.
He pointed to how the layoffs and restructuring are being framed internally: people have told Meta they appreciate taking more ownership and executing their vision “with less bureaucracy and management to navigate.” That emphasis matches the company’s renewed focus on small teams and AI-native “pods.”.
Even as he pushed for stability. Zuckerberg acknowledged the gap between what the company wants to communicate and what it has managed so far. “We also want to provide everyone with as much stability as possible. We won’t always get this balance right. ” he wrote. adding that Meta “haven’t been as clear as we aspire to be in our communication. ” and that improving this is a priority.
Before concluding. Zuckerberg returned to the central line he wanted employees to hear clearly: “To that end. I want to be clear that we do not expect other company-wide layoffs this year.” He closed by saying he is confident in what the team is building together and that Meta is one of the few companies positioned to help define the future. citing “the talent. the infrastructure. the apps and distribution. and the business model.”.
He also ended with a direct thank-you to those leaving today and to the people still at Meta: “Once again, I’m grateful to those leaving today. And I’m grateful to everyone around the company for all of the historic work we will continue doing together.”
