The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the most celebrated games of all time and, as a result, its upcoming remake for the Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the most anticipated titles of 2026, right up there with Grand Theft Auto VI. The hype for this re-imagining of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf’s most classic story is about get even more extreme, as its release date has just been leaked.
Nintendo has long had an issue with having their major reveals spoiled ahead of time but, at least in this case, no one is going to be disappointment, and no thrilling reveal is being undercut. Rather, one reliable source has simply informed Zelda fans about when this year they’ll be opening their wallets to take control of the Hero of Time once again.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is Releasing This December
A new listing on the storefront Wog.ch indicates that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will officially release for Nintendo Switch 2 on December 1, 2026. While now removed, the release date was seen by many beforehand, with news of it being reported and spread across social media.
This leak comes across as more legitimate than just about any proclamation from a prominent X user. Retailers having advanced knowledge of game release dates is commonplace, as it helps them coordinate their marketing strategies, meaning the December 1 release date is almost certainly legitimate, and was merely posted by mistake.
However, there are still some fans who don’t believe the December 1 release date to be real. This is partially due to the fact that December 1 is a Tuesday, and Nintendo generally doesn’t release games on that day of the week.
That said, releasing the Ocarina of Time remake in early December is what makes the most sense from Nintendo’s perspective. The most hyped game of the year, and possibly of all time, Grand Theft Auto VI, is releasing on November 19. By releasing Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 on December 1, Nintendo would avoid having to compete directly against GTA 6, while still getting the game out in time for the holiday season.
It’s currently unknown when the next Nintendo Direct will be held, but it’s a safe bet to say that, whether it occurs in September or October, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be the shining star of it. So little is so known about the game, and so, not only should fans expect an official announcement of the release date there, but the first proper look at the remake of what many still consider to be the greatest video game of all time.
