Bombers back under-fire coach Scott after Tigers test
The Bombers have won just one of their opening 10 matches and have a crucial fortnight against Richmond and West Coast Eagles ahead. A loss to the injury-depleted Tigers would pour immense heat on Scott after president Andrew Welsh labelled him the club’s next premiership coach. Redman says Scott continues to instil belief within the group and trusts he will lead the Bombers out of their poor start. “I think as players we’ve never wavered off the track we’re on,” Redman said ahead of Dreamtime
at the ‘G. “Obviously performances haven’t necessarily been at the level we’ve wanted them to be this year, sitting at 1-9. “Brad fills us with belief week in, week out and he’s the man for the job so yeah that’s how I see it.” Former captain Zach Merrett is again being linked with a move away from Tullamarine after his unsuccessful trade attempt to Hawthorn last season. Redman, however, doubts Essendon will let the contracted midfielder go. “I haven’t seen anything of the sort, I
am sure Zach will cross that bridge when he gets to it,” he said. “Of course, he’s a contracted player so I imagine we’ll be looking at keeping him.” Scott and Redman were strong in the Bombers’ effort around the contest in last Sunday’s loss to Fremantle. Doubling down and defending the Bombers’ method, Redman says every player must take responsibility of winning each battle. “It falls on us as individuals,” he said. “Me personally, I’ve got a contest that I’ve got to be better
at as a leader, the young guys have to look to us as leaders of the football club “We’ve got to be cracking in, leading the way. We’ve got guys like Sully Robey, putting his head over the ball, first-year guy, super impressive. “We’ve got to get in behind that and get after it.”
Essendon, Bombers, Brad Scott, Zach Redman, Andrew Welsh, Richmond, West Coast Eagles, Tigers, Dreamtime at the ‘G, Fremantle, Zach Merrett, Tullamarine
1-9 already?? That’s rough. I feel bad for Scott honestly, but if they lose again it’s over.
So Redman says they’ve never wavered but the whole season is like… waver city. Also Dreamtime at the ‘G sounds intense, I hope they show up.
Wait Zach Merrett is “linked” with leaving Tullamarine again? I thought he already left or got traded to Hawthorn? Maybe my timeline is messed up but if he’s contracted they shouldn’t let him go.
Brad Scott under fire again… I swear presidents label coaches all the time and then suddenly it’s everyone’s fault. Richmond and West Coast in two weeks might be the worst schedule ever, and Tigers injury depleted or not, it’s gonna be messy.
