Youths charged after stolen car torched near Winton

Two youths are due in court after a recent spate of vehicle-related crime around Winton. Senior Sergeant Peter Graham said that on the night of Friday, May 29, police received a number of reports of vehicles having been broken into. He said one vehicle was allegedly stolen before being set on fire near the Oreti River Bridge. “Following these incidents, police started to make enquiries to identify and located those allegedly responsible. “This included reviewing CCTV footage provided by members of the community and the

recently installed Crime Prevention cameras.” He said officers executed two search warrants today in the Winton area, and located the youths. The two youths were bailed, and were due to appear in Invercargill Youth Court at a later date. “This is a great example of police and the community working together to get this result.” Snr Sgt Graham urged anyone who saw any suspicious or unlawful behaviour to contact police on 111.
