Yellow Alert for 4th of July storms Saturday

Rochester, New York is under a Yellow Alert as multiple rounds of storms roll through Saturday—starting with gusty activity this evening, then another cluster after midnight. Fireworks could still be possible if storms move south by evening.
By the time the holiday weekend settles in, the sky over Rochester still isn’t done with the drama.
A Yellow Alert continues into the start of the Holiday weekend as several rounds of storms are tracked. The high heat has eased, but attention shifts from temperature to timing—because storms are expected to start in waves.
This evening, a cluster of gusty storms is expected to move through. After that, there should be a lull, with drier and quieter conditions for the first part of the overnight. Then, after midnight, another cluster of storms is forecast to arrive. Even though it will be late. the overnight forecast still leaves room for a few stronger storms. including the risk of gusty winds.
If you’ve been sleeping through the night, you may not want to rely on it. Don’t be surprised if thunder and lightning wake you up.
Saturday won’t be a single-hit weather event, either. The day is expected to bring several rounds of rain and storms, with the greatest chance of strong storms looking to be in the Finger Lakes. Still, everybody has a chance of getting at least a storm or two.
With that in mind, the advice is simple: keep the First Alert Weather app handy so you can check radar and receive updates from the weather team. The timing is tricky, and the forecast may shift—so checking back in matters. If the sky starts darkening and thunder rolls in, get to shelter.
If everything plays out as hoped, the bulk of the rain—and any storms—should move south of the area by evening. That would mean a better shot at being dry for fireworks displays.
But the rest of the holiday stretch won’t be perfectly clean, either.
Sunday is expected to feature some showers, mainly south of the area, though a little wet weather may try to sneak in later in the day. Monday looks wet at times, with some thunder, before improving and quieter conditions into much of next week.
