Yamal strikes in 10 minutes as Spain top Group H

Lamine Yamal scored Spain’s first World Cup goal just 10 minutes into their 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia, moving Luis de la Fuente’s side to the top of Group H after Spain’s 0-0 draw with Cabo Verde last Monday.

Sunday didn’t wait for the hype to catch up.

Just 10 minutes after Spain got their World Cup match against Saudi Arabia underway. Lamine Yamal made his mark—running inside the box and finishing after a “perfect feed” to score his first ever World Cup goal. By the time the opening moments had settled. Yamal’s burst of impact had already changed the mood of the night. with Spain going on to dominate Saudi Arabia 4-0.

Spain’s early joy was sharper because it followed a quiet warning from their opening Group H match. Last Monday. Spain disappointed with a 0-0 draw against Cabo Verde. leaving them tied up at the start of the tournament. After that result. Spain found themselves in third place in Group H heading into Sunday—but the victory over Saudi Arabia has lifted them to the very top of the group.

Some comparisons are already flying around. With Yamal. 18. lighting up the tournament. there are fans and observers who have been drawing parallels to Lionel Messi at the World Cup. The football world loves a storyline like that—one star stepping into another’s shadow—but Spain coach Luis de la Fuente isn’t interested in rushing it.

Speaking in a news conference on Saturday. de la Fuente said: “It would be a mistake to compare [Yamal] to anyone. He’s 18. in a process of development. of maturing… We have to let him follow his path.” He added: “These kinds of players. who have something different. are ready for it. They’re geniuses, like Salvador Dali or Michelangelo. What seems exceptional to us, isn’t for them.”.

The message is clear: Yamal’s breakthrough matters, but so does how Spain protects his growth.

For the team, the timing of this win couldn’t be better. Spain now have the group lead, and they can reinforce it quickly, with their next match scheduled for Friday against Uruguay.

  1. Wait Spain were 0-0 with Cabo Verde and then suddenly 4-0 with Saudi? I don’t get it lol. Also people calling him the next Messi already is wild.

  2. Messi comparisons don’t make sense cause Messi was way stronger at 18 or whatever. But maybe Yamal is just playing vs Saudi backups? Idk, I didn’t watch, just saw the headline.

  3. I hate when coaches say “don’t compare” like we can’t all see it. If he scored his first World Cup goal at 10 minutes that’s gotta be partly luck?? perfect feed and all, sure. And now they’re top of Group H, so of course everyone’s like Messi 2.0… Next match vs Uruguay, hope they don’t get too cocky.
