Wolverine game excludes the X-Men, director confirms

With the big look at Marvel’s Wolverine on this week’s State of Play, we also learned a pretty important plot point from Creative Director Marcus Smith: The X-Men do not actually exist in this game. No Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, no X-Jet, and no team to back Wolverine up if things go awry, though Smith does reveal that Team X is in play in this game. Smith revealed this fact in an interview with Variety. When asked how the team decided which X-Men

to choose for the game, Smith dropped the bombshell about the squad’s place (or lack thereof) in the game: While some may be disappointed to learn that the X-Men aren’t making a formal appearance, it’s worth noting that Team X is a name that has a certain weight. It’s the black ops group that has included a number of Weapon X characters and has consisted at various points of Wolverine, Sabretooth, Maverick, Lady Deathstrike, Omega Red, and Deadpool, among others. Several of these characters appear

in Marvel’s Wolverine, and more from the group may have yet to make an appearance. While it’s a shame we aren’t likely to get a cameo from Cyclops or Rogue, Smith’s commetary about Marvel’s Wolverine makes for an interesting twist on what we can expect. Stay tuned to the Wolverine topic for more updates and coverage.
