Wyndham Rewards shifts to 45,000-point tier Sept. 15

Wyndham Rewards is moving from three fixed award tiers to four on Sept. 15, adding a new 45,000-point level for a limited set of top hotels. The change will reshuffle the point costs of some properties, while bookings made before Sept. 15 will be honored at cu
A new number is about to land in Wyndham Rewards travelers’ spreadsheets—and for some of the program’s most expensive nights, it could be a painful one.
On Sept. 15, Wyndham Rewards will replace its current three fixed award-night tiers—7,500, 15,000 and 30,000 points—with four tiers: 5,000, 15,000, 30,000 and 45,000 points. Wyndham says the new 45,000-point tier will be reserved for “a small number of our most elevated hotels.”
The timing matters because Wyndham’s award pricing has stayed predictable for years. Since the program introduced its current fixed redemption tiers in 2019. award travelers have known what each night could cost—so long as there was availability. Wyndham says the change is coming because the program has grown: since launching those three fixed redemption tiers in 2019. it has added “hundreds of luxury. lifestyle. and all-inclusive hotels.”.
That growth is exactly what Wyndham says it is reflecting as it updates the chart. The program’s spokesperson explained that “our program has evolved significantly” since 2019, and that the updated structure is meant to match what members value most while staying within the fixed-tier model.
Wyndham will redistribute its properties across the four tiers on Sept. 15. Many hotels will remain at the same nightly point prices—15,000 or 30,000 points—while others will move up or down. Still, Wyndham says “the bulk” of properties will remain in the lowest three tiers.
For members who mainly book the lower-cost nights, the change could feel like an upgrade. The most favorable shift is that some properties priced at 7. 500 points per night are expected to drop to 5. 000 points per night on Sept. 15. The downside is aimed squarely at higher-end redemptions: hotels currently priced at 30. 000 points per night may rise to 45. 000 points per night when the new tier structure takes effect.
Wyndham is also leaning hard on predictability of its own rules during the transition. It is giving travelers several months of notice, and it says bookings made before Sept. 15 will be honored at the current rates. Wyndham adds that if a traveler books a property and it decreases its award rate after the changes take effect. the difference in points will be automatically refunded.
That means for award travelers willing to plan ahead—and familiar with a property’s cancellation policy—locking in redemptions before Sept. 15 can be a low-risk move. especially since points bookings are usually refundable until shortly before the stay and most Wyndham Rewards properties can be booked up to a year in advance.
Still. the emotional tension for frequent Wyndham redeemers is likely to center on one question: which properties in your personal favorites list will land in the new 45. 000-point tier?. Wyndham’s message is clear that it expects most properties to stay in the lower tiers. but the introduction of that 45. 000-point level is unmistakable for anyone who routinely books the most expensive nights.

45,000?? So basically they’re just making it harder to use points right before my trip lol.
Wait bookings made before Sept 15 are honored… like if you already booked it, you’re good? But if you search after Sept 15 it’s gonna be higher points, right? Kinda confusing but sounds like a bait and switch.
I saw somewhere it’s gonna be 4 tiers now so it’s always better, but I’m not sure how that math works. Like if my hotel was 15,000 will it still be 15,000 or do they randomly move it? Wyndham always changes stuff so I don’t trust it.
Tiers are a scam. If they were ‘predictable for years’ then why do they need new numbers now. Also ‘top hotels’ sounds like they’ll just jack up the places people actually want. I’m gonna assume everything jumps to 45k on Sept 15 and just not use points anymore.
