Wyndham Clark enters the final round of the US Open with a six-shot advantage at Shinnecock Hills, backed by the off-course support of his influencer girlfriend, Emily Tanner, who has been posting about his progress. On Saturday, Clark held his lead with key p

Wyndham Clark didn’t need to say much on Saturday night—he just walked off the 18th green with a six-shot lead and let the moment land. For the American. the US Open at Shinnecock Hills looks like it could finally turn into the kind of second-major finish that has been teased for years but never fully delivered.

Emily Tanner was waiting for him on the edge of the green, and the posts followed quickly. Tanner shared a picture of Clark’s score on her Instagram story with the caption “Proud x100000”. then later in the day she added “Proud x1000000” after Clark held firm. Clark. 32. has spent much of his resurgent 2026 season talking about confidence and comfort in these exact situations—and Tanner’s presence has become part of the picture. whether as a lucky charm or simply a reminder that he’s happier off the course.

This week’s focus is still the golf. Clark has been leading by six as the tournament moves toward Sunday’s final round. with Scottie Scheffler tied for second. though by some distance. At Shinnecock Hills. where the course has been “causing carnage” for plenty of rivals throughout the week. Clark’s margin matters. He hasn’t wrapped up his second major win yet, but he’s close.

His form has come with a new personal stability. Clark went public at The Masters with his girlfriend. influencer Emily Tanner. at the iconic par-3 contest in April. and then went on to post a career-best finish of 21st at Augusta. Last month, he won The CJ Cup Byron Nelson with a scintillating final round of 60. Now he stands on the brink of victory at the US Open. played this year a short distance outside of New York.

Saturday’s round showed both the calm and the risk. Clark made crucial par saves from five feet three times, from six feet, from seven feet and from 14ft. He also produced a swing of brilliance that helped define the week: a 275-yard approach to inside five feet for the par-five 16th. the week’s first eagle.

The lead didn’t come without scrutiny, though. Clark’s path through the closing holes included plenty of attention on the Poa annua greens. where he spent an inordinate amount of time working on his putt lines and was “gardening” on the line over the closing stages. The rules allow players to tap down spike marks. but the amount of time he took became a talking point as the day wore on.

Still, his edge stayed intact because some of his breaks landed at the right times. Clark found the heavy rough, then claimed a free drop from a television tower. He was also allowed to place his ball after it twice rolled away.

There’s a contrast to all of it that can’t be ignored. Before he went public with Tanner, Clark endured a difficult 2025. At Oakmont. during the tournament he is now on the brink of winning. his temper got the best of him and he smashed his locker up after failing to make the cut. Weeks earlier, at the US PGA Championship, he dangerously threw his driver away, snapping it and damaging signage behind him.

This year he has not avoided the admissions. After Saturday’s round, Clark said: “I feel good. I have got more and more comfortable every time I have got in these positions.” He described Tanner as “my good luck charm” when he posted pictures of them at Augusta in April.

Taken together. the moments on and off the course tell a story that feels like it’s still being written in real time: one week where a demanding venue has punished many rivals. one round where Clark kept saving pars and built a six-shot cushion. and one personal support system that has moved from private to public.

As Shinnecock Hills waits for Sunday, Clark now has to finish what he started—because the US Open title is within reach, but he still has one final round to prove the form and the composure are the real deal.

  1. I don’t even follow golf but I keep seeing that girlfriend Emily Tanner story thing. Like does the influencer actually affect the swing or is that just hype?

  2. Wait so he has a six-shot lead and he’s still “hasn’t wrapped up” the win? I thought six shots meant automatic victory. Also Shinnecock Hills sounds like a horror movie title, “causing carnage”??

  3. Honestly I miss when sports was just about the player, not the whole Instagram girlfriend thing. If he wins, people are gonna blame the girlfriend’s posts or whatever, and if he loses it’ll be “the pressure” again. Proud x1000000 sounds like he’s a celebrity athlete now not just a golfer. Also Scottie being tied for second… I swear that changes every article I read.
