A male suspect was arrested in Portsmouth, New Hampshire Wednesday in connection with the murder of a woman in Salem.
Police responding to a wellbeing check on Cabot Street in Salem Tuesday evening found the 42-year-old woman deceased, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
The woman’s death was ruled a homicide. The victim’s name has not yet been released as authorities notify next of kin, officials said.
The suspect, identified as a 50-year-old Salem man, was arrested for murder after a warrant for his arrest was filed, authorities said.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned on the charge of being a fugitive from justice in New Hampshire. Once returned to Massachusetts, he will be arraigned on a murder charge in Salem District Court, the district attorney’s office said.
