WNBA player’s MAGA TikTok history contradicts claim of political neutrality
Indiana Fever role player-turned-MAGA darling Sophie Cunningham has a right-wing social media history that contradicts her previous claims of being politically agnostic.
On July 24, left-leaning publication MeidasTouch checked the 29-year-old guard’s TikTok account and found that Cunningham had reposted videos with viewpoints on topics such as immigration, national identity and political expression by athletes that align with the opinions of the Trump administration.
Cunningham drew controversy when she stated in an ESPN interview that she did not want transgender women playing in women’s sports leagues.
“I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men,” she said in the interview.
She insisted that though she held that opinion, she did not consider herself right-wing.
“I’m very much in the middle. I agree with things on both sides, disagree with things on both sides. And that’s all I’ve ever said about my political beliefs. But people love to assume,” she said in the piece.
However, her social media activity seems to suggest she leans right.
Per MeidasTouch‘s reporting, Cunningham regularly reposts MAGA talking points to her 3.2 million TikTok followers. For example, on December 5, 2025, she reposted a creator who said of undocumented immigrants, “you shouldn’t have f****** came here to begin with.”
The same video finds the creator mockingly saying, “All these women, we’re all oppressed. Black people are oppressed. POCs are oppressed. Everyone’s f****** oppressed.”
In a video posted on February 8, Cunningham reposted a meme video of Olympian Hunter Hess saying “Just ‘cuz I’m wearing the flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the US” before he’s interrupted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson saying, “Shut up b****.”
A third repost from Cunningham reads, “My parents were right about everything,” followed by a list of points that includes, “Rap music is demonic,” “Modern TV is just propaganda” and “The Bible and prayer always reveal the answer.”
Cunningham also follows conservative conspiracy theorist Candace Owens and pundit Riley Gaines, a former swimmer who made a career off of her grievance that she once competed against a trans swimmer named Lia Thomas. Thomas and Gaines tied for fifth in that race.
Cunningham is a career 8 PPG scorer and currently plays alongside fellow WNBA lightning rod Caitlin Clark.
