The WNBA will not rescind the technical foul assessed to Caitlin Clark during last Wednesday’s win over the Connecticut Sun, a league source confirmed to IndyStar. That leaves the Indiana Fever guard with seven technical fouls on the season, one away from an automatic one-game suspension.
Clark was whistled for the infraction near the end of the third quarter last week. She drew a foul on forward Olivia Nelson-Ododa, then began jawing with guard Saniya Rivers. During the exchange, Clark pointed to the scoreboard, which showed the Fever ahead by nearly 30 points, and said, “Look at the (expletive) scoreboard.”
Both she and Rivers were hit with technicals.
It was the second technical in as many games for the WNBA All-Star, who was T’d up 90 seconds into the Fever’s game vs. the New York Liberty after arguing a no-call on Jonquel Jones.
Clark had gone nearly a month between technicals before that but is now on the thinnest of ice. One more and she will face a mandatory one-game suspension without pay, plus a $1,500 fine.
Clark came close to hitting the former seven-tech limit as a rookie in 2024, but finished the season with six.
Indiana has 17 regular-season games remaining, including Tuesday’s tilt with the Seattle Storm.
When asked after the Connecticut game if picking up her eighth technical felt like an inevitability, Clark laughed and replied: “You’ve got to ask the Magic 8 Ball.”
The Fever travel to Portland on Friday, then wrap up the three-game road trip at Minnesota on Sunday.
