Willson Contreras among 3 Red Sox players to receive big injury updates Wednesday

The Red Sox are dealing with the absences of three important position players in Willson Contreras, Adley Rutschman, and Masataka Yoshida.

Considering how much separation the Boston Red Sox have created from the pack after their hot streak earlier this year brought them back from the dead, they have certainly put themselves in a good position to seal a postseason spot. Alas, the Red Sox have been suffering some injury woes as of late, as they have been missing a few key position players, including veteran slugger Willson Contreras.

Contreras has been out since the 30th of August due to a hamstring injury, and the Red Sox placed him on the 10-day injured list so he can recover from that knock. The good news is that he appears to be on his way back to the big-league roster. According to Tim Healey of the Boston Globe, the 34-year-old first baseman will be joining the team’s Double-A affiliate in Portland and play one or two games to get back up to game speed in preparation for his return.

In addition to Contreras, the Red Sox have also been dealing with the absences of Masataka Yoshida and Adley Rutschman. Yoshida has been out since the middle of August due to a significant left hamstring injury, while Rutschman has been out of Boston’s past two games while dealing with an elbow injury.

Rutschman is only deemed to be day-to-day even after getting a Cortisone shot in his elbow following the Red Sox’s 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. The Red Sox, as per Chris Cotillo of Mass Live, believe that their big trade deadline acquisition could be back in the lineup as soon as Friday against the Kansas City Royals.

Meanwhile, Yoshida’s return doesn’t appear to be imminent, as Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said, per Healey, that he’s only been limited thus far to “treadmill walking”.

The Red Sox at least have the depth to weather the absences of those three, and with the postseason being right around the corner, having them healthy for when the games matter the most is the priority for the team.
