Huge smoke plumes as Widnes recycling fire grows

Fire fighters are tackling a significant fire which has broken out at a recycling facility in Cheshire this afternoon (Monday, June 22). Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed they are in attendance at the blaze which has broken out at a facility on Everite Road in Widnes, understood to be Fresco Recycling based inside the Towngate Business Centre industrial estate. Photos posted on social media show enormous plumes of black smoke in the sky above the site, visible for miles across the region. Click

All persons are accounted for and no casualties have been reported, the fire service said. This is a live incident – updates to follow.

Damn that smoke is wild.
So it’s like 700 tons of cardboard on fire? That seems crazy, like how does a recycling place even store that much. I hope nobody got hurt but the doors/windows thing makes me uneasy.
Wait is this the same place that burned before? I swear I saw something about recycling fires on the news and they always say ‘no casualties’ but then later it comes out there were injuries. Also black smoke means toxic plastic right? Or is it just paper smoke… I can’t tell.
Keep doors and windows closed because it might collapse? That’s scary. I’m not even in Widnes but the black cloud looked like those pictures from industrial fires in the US where the whole building just melts. Recycling centers are supposed to be safer than landfills, so why is it always a huge blaze. Hopefully they get it under control soon.
