Aqib Talib and Skip Bayless believe the Rams’ 27-7 loss to the 49ers could be the best thing for LA, forcing the team to refocus.
The Los Angeles Rams’ season opener against the San Francisco 49ers ended in a 27-7 defeat, and Aqib Talib thinks that is the best thing that could have happened to LA. The Rams were the clear favorite after closing the preseason 3-0. However, they could not hold onto the momentum any longer.
Speaking recently on the Gridiron podcast alongside Skip Bayless, the former cornerback argued that the Rams’ defeat to the 49ers was the best thing for the team.
“You create a super team in the off-season, and your expectations go through the roof. The better you are as a team, the better your opponent is going to get up to play against you. And they had such a good offseason sh*t it was damn near like they were the Super Bowl champs,” he said.
“Best thing that could’ve happened for this Rams team.”

During the podcast, Talib argued that with their impressive preseason games, the Rams also pushed the other teams to perform at their best. Something that the LA team needs to be ready to face.
Bayless further added that humiliation on the big stage will ultimately be the “best thing” for the Rams to help them rise again.
“I’m gonna make a case that it will become the best thing that could have happened to this Rams team,” Bayless added. “They got annihilated, dominated, (and) humiliated on a solo stage game on Netflix, and I believe that they will rise from this because it will bring them all back into a focus they did not have. Because I can’t remember a team more prohibitively favored than the Rams were going into this year.”
After their regular-season opener upset, the Rams next host the New York Giants in Week 2. The matchup will take place on Monday, September 21, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
