The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool has become the kind of visual mess that makes you laugh until you remember it’s real—real money, real maintenance, and real public expectations.
On Monday morning, Whoopi Goldberg struggled to keep a straight face while looking at photos and video showing the pool overrun by an algae outbreak. Underneath that problem, she said, the new paint that President Trump picked out is peeling.
Speaking as the moderator of “The View,” Goldberg looked at the situation and joked that one photo of workers in the pool flat out looked like they were fishing in it. Then she shifted from laughter to a sharper argument about what should happen next.
“I want somebody to sue,” Whoopi said. “Because if a contractor did this at your house, this is what you would do. I think the country needs to say ‘We’re suing you. Suing you for doing this without our permission. and we’re suing the people who did it. because clearly they didn’t know what they were doing.’ Clearly!”.
She followed up by underlining the practical stakes. “But you know, it’s just a suggestion,” she continued. “Because a lot of money is going away.”
The discussion didn’t stop at blame and consequences. Goldberg also weighed in on the motivation behind the renovations. saying that Trump is clearly just angry with America and that anger is what’s driving him to spearhead projects like this one. Other hosts agreed that the effort could be a retaliation of sorts for not being allowed by Greenland. a possibility Goldberg said she understood.
“For me, if you really cared about the country, you could not — you could not continue to do what you’re doing,” she added.

So like… sue who, the pool itself? Lol. Algae is nature, not a contractor.
I swear politicians are always “renovating” something and then it looks worse. If they can’t keep it clean or the paint on, then yeah they should be held accountable. Also the Greenland part made me laugh, like why is that even connected?
I mean suing seems extreme, but contractors messing up public works isn’t. I think the algae is because Trump wanted it to be like… swampy? Idk. And peeling paint is probably just heat or whatever, but she’s probably right about someone paying for it.
This is why I can’t stand when they do these “projects” then act shocked it’s all falling apart. The whole fishing joke was funny but it’s also gross. If they were already working there, why did it take so long to fix? And Greenland thing sounds made up like she heard it from someone on Twitter.
