Wladimir Klitschko was with Hayden Panettiere for several years before they eventually went their separate ways.
The 36-year-old actress just sadly passed away on Sunday (August 16), and she leaves behind a daughter, Kaya, whom she shared with the 50-year-old former boxer.
Who is Wladimir Klitschko?
As previously mentioned, Wladimir is a retired Ukrainian boxer, who was born in the Soviet Union.
He started training in amateur boxing in the late 1980s, and made it to the 1996 Summer Olympics several years later, winning a gold medal!
After that, he began his professional career, which went on for nearly 20 years. He announced his retirement in August 2017, after 64 wins in 69 fights. 53 of those were by knockout.
When were Wladimir Klitschko and Hayden Panettiere together?
Wladimir and Hayden met in 2009, and were together for two years before split. The couple then got back together in 2013, and were engaged that October.
The following year, it was announced that Hayden was pregnant in May 2014, and she was expecting their first child. In December 2014, Hayden gave birth to their daughter, Kaya, who was born at 7 lbs., 14 oz., and measured 20 inches.
Following the birth of Kaya, Hayden struggled with postpartum depression, which she has been open about.
Hayden and Wladimir broke up in 2019 after nine years together, and they continued to co-parent Kaya. However, amid Hayden‘s struggles, it was revealed the following year that Kaya was living in Ukraine with her father.
What Hayden Panettiere has said about Kaya’s custody
In September 2022, Hayden appeared on Red Table Talk and opened up about the custody agreement she signed.
“At first it was not because it wasn’t a discussion,” the actress said. “If [Klitschko] had come to me and said I think because of where you’re at right now and your struggles that you’re having it would be good for her to be over here with me for a while — which if I had probably had enough of a conversation I would’ve said okay that makes sense, I get it, I’ll come there to visit and stuff like that.”
“Because of the way that it was done, it was very upsetting,” she added. “I mean, it was the worst signing those papers, the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever, ever had to do in my life.”
