White Sox sidelined Pereira after wall crash concussion

Everson Pereira was placed on the White Sox’s seven-day injured list after a concussion from Wednesday’s crash into the center-field wall, and the team called up Junior Pérez from Triple-A Charlotte to fill the spot.
When Everson Pereira went down after his crash into the center-field wall Wednesday. it wasn’t just the momentum of a single play that stopped. The White Sox watched an outfielder who had just made an “incredible” running. leaping catch lie on the field woozy. then walk off slowly as he waited for a concussion test.
The team placed Pereira on the seven-day injured list with the concussion. In the aftermath, he told teammates he was feeling better and remained in good spirits in the clubhouse while awaiting the test, saying the rest of his body felt fine.
Pereira’s injury comes at a rough moment for Chicago’s outfield plans. Manager Will Venable had been trying to work him into a crowded group, even against right-handed pitching. Wednesday. Venable started Pereira in center field against Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodón. instead of using Tristan Peters. who had taken over center field and is a left-handed hitter.
Venable framed the decision in terms of opportunity. “But he’s such a talented guy, such a good hitter, such a good defender, he’ll have enough opportunities against right-handed pitching, as well,” Venable said before the game.
Pereira wasn’t new to bouncing back in Chicago. He had returned from the injured list one week earlier after recovering from a strained right pectoral that sidelined him for more than six weeks. He also missed time earlier this season with a sprained left ankle.
At Triple-A Charlotte, where Junior Pérez will come up, Pereira had been producing. With Charlotte this season, Pereira was slashing .230/.326/.432 with five doubles, two triples, two home runs and seven RBI in 20 games.
Before the White Sox acquired him on May 16 for left-hander Jackson Nove, Pereira played 36 games for Triple-A Las Vegas in the Athletics’ system. With the White Sox, Pereira hit .232/.299/.420 with four doubles, three home runs and seven RBI in 21 games.
The roster shuffle also carries a broader milestone. With the call-up of outfielder Junior Pérez from Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, the White Sox tied the 1944 Reds for the most players to make their big-league debut before the All-Star break at 13.
Yet Pereira’s absence lands while the team continues to struggle away from home. The White Sox are 14-22 on the road with a minus-35 run differential after their 10-5 loss to the Yankees on Wednesday. including losses that have often felt especially costly for a season that’s been unforgiving when games slip away early.
For now. the biggest immediate question is medical: how Pereira will clear the concussion protocol after hitting his head on the wall. The White Sox will lean on the next call-up in the meantime—starting with Junior Pérez—as they try to keep their outfield rotation moving without losing the defensive edge Pereira had been bringing.

Concussions are no joke. Hope he’s okay.
Seven-day concussion list like it’s a cold or something. Baseball teams always act like they can rush it back.
Wait so they called up Junior Perez from Triple-A and it’s not even the same Perez? They should’ve just played Peters instead of “crowded outfield plans” sounds like excuses.
I swear these wall crashes always happen when they’re making those highlight catches. One second you’re “incredible” and next second you’re woozy waiting for a test… also didn’t he just come back last week from an injury? Chicago really can’t catch a break.
