Which Sheriff Country Stars Return for Season 2?

Sheriff Country is back for season 2, and showrunner Matt Lopez says the new run will reshape the family dynamic at the show’s heart. Here’s which cast members are confirmed to return, following season 1’s explosive reveal that DEA Deputy Director Eva is Micke

When Sheriff Country returns for season 2. the town of Edgewater will look familiar—but the emotional ground beneath it won’t. Season 1 ended in May 2026 with a jolt: Deputy Director of the DEA — Eva. played by Rachel Ticotin — was revealed as Mickey’s (Morena Baccarin) mother. a fact presumed dead. Now, showrunner Matt Lopez is promising the consequences won’t fade after the episode ends.

CBS moved quickly to renew Sheriff Country in December 2025, citing its performance on Fridays at 8 P.M. The show averaged 7.6 million viewers and has been described as “consistently a time period winner” for those time slots.

By the time season 2 begins. the world of Sheriff Country has already been set up through a backdoor pilot tied to Fire Country’s earlier arrival in 2022. In the original Fire Country run. inmate Bode (Max Thieriot) returned home and volunteered for the California Conservation Camp Program during season 1 of that hit show. But Sheriff Country’s own focus shifted to Sharon’s (Diane Farr) estranged sister Mickey (Morena Baccarin). as she comes back to town to solve crimes.

The season 1 bombshell about Eva wasn’t a last-minute guess, Lopez said. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly. he explained that writers had pitched the twist early on. and he dismissed it at first. “Over the course of the season. more and more writers started to get on board. ” Lopez said. describing why he eventually changed course: the reveal would be grounded in “real human emotion. ” not just a surprise card.

For season 2. Lopez said the story will “reset our family dynamic that’s at the heart of this show.” He also teased how the new truth will split loyalties inside the family web: Wes thinks he and Mickey are on the same page after being betrayed by Eva. while Mickey isn’t “as on board. ” and Lopez suggested that “in some ways you can make the case that Wes’ betrayal was worse.”.

Lopez added that season 2 will unpack how far back this deception goes. Eva “hasn’t been part of the picture since Mickey was like 5 or 6 years old. ” he said. and the show will trace what led to the decision to essentially stage her death. “There is a time jump. ” Lopez teased. “but then we will fill in like what happened in the scene that we didn’t see.” He promised the emotional aftershocks will last “much more than an episode. ” and framed the new setup as a dramatic “engine out the gate. ” with Mickey barely speaking to her father—until their handler becomes the woman she’s believed dead for the last 30 years.

Across the cast, several key players are confirmed to be back for the sophomore run.

Morena Baccarin will remain central to the series as Sheriff Mickey Fox. Christopher Gorham is also returning—his character Travis will appear in season 2 as the show keeps balancing Sheriff Country with Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage. Michele Weaver. who was missing from several episodes in season 1 amid her pregnancy. has returned. and Cassie will stay a large part of the show. Matt Lauria is returning as Boone, as the series continues to deliver Mickey and Boone’s relationship.

W. Earl Brown will continue to be part of season 2 as Wes. with the new episodes expected to deepen Mickey’s difficult relationship with her dad. Amanda Arcuri, who played Mickey’s daughter Skye in season 1, will have a larger role. Ian Quinlan is being promoted from recurring to main cast for season 2.

And Rachel Ticotin’s Eva is the standout question that now answers itself: her character is presumably returning after season 1’s revelation.

What season 2 won’t do is leave viewers guessing about why the past matters so much. Lopez says the new run will “subvert expectations. ” but it’ll also fill in the missing pieces of a story that’s been hanging over Mickey’s life for decades—one where the truth arrives. and then forces everyone to live with it.

  1. Wait so the DEA lady is Mickey’s mom?? I thought that whole thing was gonna be like a fake out. Edgewater is “familiar” but emotionally different… ok so everyone just cries harder? lol

  2. I didn’t even realize this was coming back already. If Rachel Ticotin is back I’m watching, but why would they keep doing the same family trauma storyline like every season. Also the article got confusing with that Micke When Sheriff Country returns part.

  3. So basically Netflix ruined it by moving the show to Fridays? That’s what my cousin said anyway. And if Eva was “presumed dead” then they’re definitely gonna do a big twist where she wasn’t actually dead, right? I swear they always pull that.

  4. Family dynamic reshaped?? I mean it already felt like Mickey was chasing ghosts. I’m more curious about Sharon and that estranged sister thing than the DEA plot. Also it says backdoor pilot from Fire Country in 2022… so are we supposed to know Fire Country canon or is this just gonna be like “ignore that”??
