Head coach Nick Sirianni has been impressed with Dontayvion Wicks since Philadelphia acquired him from the Green Bay Packers this offseason. In fact, Wicks’ route-running ability reminds Sirianni of a receiver he knows extremely well.

“Really excited about the new addition at receiver Tay Wicks,” Sirianni said on a PFF Podcast with Jac Collinsworth. “He really reminds me of Keenan Allen with what he does at the line of scrimmage and what he does at the top of his route.”
That’s quite the compliment. Sirianni spent five seasons with the San Diego Chargers from 2013-17, overlapping with Allen throughout that entire stretch. He became the team’s wide receivers coach for the final two seasons before leaving to become the Indianapolis Colts’ offensive coordinator.
Sirianni saw firsthand what made Allen one of the NFL’s premier route runners. Now he’s seeing some of those same qualities in Wicks.
Philadelphia acquired the 25-year-old from Green Bay for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-rounder. Wicks caught 30 passes for 332 yards and two touchdowns last season, but his role should increase considerably in Philadelphia.
Wicks enters Week 1 as one of the Eagles’ starting receivers following the offseason departure of A.J. Brown. Smith is the unquestioned No. 1, but Wicks has an opportunity to establish himself as Jalen Hurts’ second option.
The Eagles also have rookie first-round pick Makai Lemon, who won the Biletnikoff Award during his final season at USC. Lemon gives Philadelphia another intriguing long-term weapon, although a hamstring injury cost him a good amount of practice time this summer.
Wicks gets his first opportunity to prove he belongs on Sunday when the Eagles open their season against the Washington Commanders.
