‘Welcome back Broadchurch’: Olivia Colman’s next role teased for hit returning crime series
The Broadchurch to Only Murders in the Building pipeline continues as eagle-eyed fans have spotted Olivia Colman on the set of the new season of the hit crime show. It comes after protagonist Selena Gomez captured the Oscar-winner whilst filming.
Colman, who starred on beloved murder mystery series Broadchurch between 2013 and 2017, might be the latest addition to Only Murders‘ stacked cast for season 6, which is currently in production in the UK.
The new chapter sees the three protagonist sleuths played by Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short hop across the pond to follow a lead after fellow true crime podcaster Cinda Canning (Tina Fey) is murdered.

In an Instagram post shared at the weekend, Gomez included a snap of Colman in character together with other images from the new season. While the Wonka star hasn’t been officially announced as part of the starry ensemble for season 6, the picture appears to confirm she’s the third Broadchurch star to feature in Only Murders after David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker were cast on the show.
Digital Spy has reached to Disney and Colman’s representatives for comment.
As we await official confirmation, it seems that Gomez’s picture was more than enough to send fans in a frenzy as one Redditor declared: “Welcome back, Broadchurch.”
“Right?! 3 actors from it now. Close enough,” they added as another person commented: “This next season is going to HEAL and INVIGORATE me.”
With the snap from set came speculation as to who Colman might be playing on Only Murders as she dons an elegant sheer dress and a shawl in a fancy country house setting.
“Praying she plays a character like the stepmother from Fleabag who you’re super convinced did it, only for her to have a ridiculous alibi,” one fan suggested.
Only Murders has earned a reputation for welcoming different hosts of A-listers each season, with the sixth having significant British and Irish contingents.
Alongside Doctor Who stars Tennant and Whittaker, who play a photographer and a barrister respectively, the new instalment is also set to star Bridgerton‘s Nicola Coughlan and Simone Ashley, comedy legend Jennifer Saunders, Willow’s Amar Chadha-Patel, Heartstopper‘s Rhea Norwood, Bad Sisters‘ Sharon Horgan, The Imitation Game‘s Matthew Beard, Andor‘s Kathryn Hunter, comedian Richard Ayoade and The Marlow Murder Club‘s Adrian Lukis.
Only Murders in the Building streams on Hulu and Disney+. A release date for season 6 hasn’t been announced just yet.
