Reysol Coffee Raises Relief Funds for Colombian Earthquake Support
New Jersey-based Reysol Coffee Roasters is raising funds for emergency tents and heavy-duty tarps in Balboa, Risaralda, Colombia, where the company’s founding family has farmed for six generations. The campaign follows the Aug. 10 earthquake that caused extensive damage throughout western Colombia’s coffee-growing regions. Reysol said it is distributing supplies alongside Balboa’s fire department.
Brewing for Equity Opens Cohort 2 Applications
The Coffee Coalition for Racial Equity is accepting applications for the second Brewing for Equity Fellowship cohort through Sept. 10. The 10-month program is open to U.S.-based coffee professionals and includes monthly virtual sessions, a three-day in-person workshop, a capstone project and other optional training. The fellowship launched last year supporting Black and Brown coffee professionals.
Hydrangea Coffee Roasters Faces Employee Harassment Suit
An employee has sued Berkeley, California-based Hydrangea Coffee Roasters and its owner, alleging sexual harassment, a hostile work environment and failure by the company to prevent the alleged conduct, according to an SFGATE report.
Jerusalem Coffee House Closes Indefinitely
Oakland, California’s Jerusalem Coffee House has closed indefinitely (Instagram), saying it is taking time to reset and address ongoing legal issues. The closure comes ahead of a federal trial in a U.S. Justice Department discrimination case alleging that the shop refused service to Jewish customers. The business has disputed the allegations and has characterized the litigation as political persecution.
Giesen and Alrighty Launch Alpine Roasting Championship
Giesen Roasting Solutions and Munich’s Alrighty Coffee Roastery are launching the Alpine Roasting Championship Oct. 9-11. Twelve roasteries from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France and Slovenia will roast the same green coffee on three identically configured Giesen15-E machines before blind judging. Applications close Sept. 15, with the 12 available positions.
Segafredo Launches Shelf-Stable Cold Espresso
Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA has formally launched Segafredo Cold Italian Espresso, a foodservice product made from filtered water and coffee for cocktails, nonalcoholic beverages, desserts and other culinary applications. The product comes in cases of six 24-ounce bottles, with approximately 24 1-ounce pours per bottle.
Caffè Culture Expands 2026 Program
Caffè Culture returns to London’s Business Design Centre Sept. 29-30 with an expanded program for coffee, tea and hospitality professionals. The show will include a new Discovery Village for equipment and product demonstrations, a Cupping Village focused on coffee origins and processing, an expanded specialty tea area and the returning Roasters Zone and Caffè Insights program.
Package Joes Pools Roaster Orders in Packaging Co-Op
Packaging supplier Package Joes has introduced a Co-Op Program that combines individually branded coffee-bag orders from multiple roasters into shared production runs.
Vale Matcha Plants 12,000 Tea Plants on Whidbey Island
Seattle-based Vale Matcha has planted its first 12,000 tea plants at Vale Farms, a 365-acre property on Washington’s Whidbey Island. The company ultimately plans to cultivate approximately 200 acres while developing a 30,000-square-foot tencha-processing facility in nearby Oak Harbor.
Innovative Beverage Concepts Marks 30 Years
Irvine, California-based Innovative Beverage Concepts is marking its 30th anniversary. Founded in 1996, the foodservice supplier operates the Mocafe, Teaology and Modern Oats brands. The company said it plans to introduce a customer loyalty and engagement program called MoPerks alongside additional specialty beverage products over the coming year.
