Google’s next smartwatch platform update, Wear OS 7, is aiming to make your wrist feel more like the rest of your phone: delivery and sports information via iPhone-style Live Updates, new widget-style Wear Widgets that match Android layouts, and Gemini Intelli
The next time something is arriving at your door—or when a game is suddenly turning—you may not have to reach for your phone. Google says Wear OS 7 will add iPhone-style Live Updates, bringing delivery tracking and sports scores directly to your wrist, or to your smartphone.
That’s part of a broader push to make Wear OS feel more current and more useful moment-to-moment. Alongside Live Updates, Google is introducing “Wear Widgets,” a new widget experience built for the watch. Instead of the existing tiles model. Wear OS 7 will use widget-style layouts that can appear in small or large formats and “align perfectly” with Android’s 2×1 and 2×2 widget sizes.
AI is also moving closer to the hardware. Google says Gemini Intelligence—its umbrella branding for personalized and proactive Gemini features—will arrive on “select watches” launching “later this year.” The company also describes the ability to track automated tasks that an AI is working on. straight from your watch.
There’s even a practical promise for people deciding whether to upgrade. Google says users can see “up to” a 10 percent improvement in battery life when moving from Wear OS 6 to Wear OS 7. The reason. according to Google. is that it’s investing in “power optimizations” so users can “do more with their favorite apps.” But as always with battery claims. the real test will come only after Wear OS 7 is actually available.
Taken together, these changes point to a simple goal: less tapping, less checking, more information and activity delivered when you need it—whether that’s a shipment status, a sports moment, or an AI-handled task you want to keep an eye on without breaking your rhythm.
