Warriors Face Deadline to Match Post’s $30M Offer

Warriors deadline – Quinten Post signed a three-year, $30 million offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies, setting up a match deadline for the Golden State Warriors at 11:59 p.m. ET Tuesday. If the Warriors match, it would likely signal a shift away from their plan to pursue LeBro

When Quinten Post’s name moved to Memphis, Golden State’s offseason clock started ticking loud. The third-year center signed a three-year, $30 million contract offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Warriors have until 11:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday to decide whether they will match it.

The decision matters more than just one roster spot. If the Warriors match Post’s offer sheet, it would all but confirm they’re abandoning the plan to sign LeBron James while also re-signing Draymond Green.

Post, 26, isn’t a fringe player in the way a veteran minimum option sometimes is. His career averages are 7.8 points with 44.3 percent shooting and 36.4 percent from three. In his second season, he showed improvement as a defensive anchor. Still. his profile comes with limits: due to a lack of athleticism and agility. he doesn’t project to be a major plus on that end.

Golden State’s current offseason moves already outline the team’s direction. The Warriors have extended Kristaps Porzingis’ contract and re-signed Al Horford. Their stated need is a third-string center to support those veterans. But even if they view that role as necessary. they may not want to pay for it at a level that comes with the full weight of a $10 million average annual value.

There’s also the way Golden State has described its roster priorities. In an exit interview in May. Steve Kerr said the Warriors “need younger legs.” Matching Post—at 26—would fit that idea. It would also mean Post would be the youngest player the Warriors re-signed this offseason. Horford is 40. Porzingis is 30. De’Anthony Melton is 28. Draymond Green is 36, and their top target remains LeBron James, who is 41.

How the match would hit the numbers is where the tension turns practical. Assuming Post’s first-year salary would be $10 million. matching the offer sheet would put the Warriors at about $193 million in salary for the 2026-27 season. That would leave about $16 million for James. Green. and one other veteran minimum—if the Warriors want to stay under the first apron.

If they convert Melton’s contract into the taxpayer mid-level exception, the Warriors would have more money to sign Green. But the tradeoff would be stark: they wouldn’t be able to offer James more than a veteran minimum.

The stakes are clear even without slogans. The Warriors may be able to justify each step on its own. but taken together. the roster decisions they’ve made so far suggest they haven’t successfully built the “younger legs” group Kerr said they need. Post could be the kind of hinge piece that helps on age—if the math and the James pursuit can coexist. With the deadline set for Tuesday night, the answer is about to arrive from the front office.
