Warriors lock Porzingis with $40M extension deal

The Golden State Warriors are bringing back big man Kristaps Porzingis on a two-year, $40-million contract with a player option in the second year, his agent told ESPN’s Shams Charania. Porzingis joined the Warriors in a February trade from the Atlanta Hawks but played in just 15 of their 27 games following the All-Star break. The 30-year-old was limited by injury but has also dealt with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a disorder of the autonomic nervous system, since the 2024-25 season with the Boston
Celtics. Porzingis averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 blocks to begin his tenure with the Warriors last season. He scored 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting with five rebounds and five assists in a play-in tournament victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. However, Porzingis was hobbled by a right ankle injury in the Warriors’ second play-in game against the Phoenix Suns, finishing with 11 points in under 15 minutes in a season-ending 111-96 loss. The 7-footer was a minus-22 in the defeat, the
worst mark of any player in the contest. Golden State re-signed center Al Horford on June 25. Longtime Warrior Draymond Green declined his $27.7-million player option earlier Monday.
Golden State Warriors, Kristaps Porzingis, Draymond Green, Al Horford, NBA contract extension, POTS, right ankle injury, play-in tournament
40M for Porzingis?? lol hope he stays healthy.
Sounds like he’s basically made of glass. 15 games after the All-Star break and still they lock him in. Also POTS?? I’ve never even heard that before so maybe that’s why he’s so inconsistent.
Wait so he had POTS with Boston but now Warriors are like yeah sign the $40m. That seems backwards to me. Like if it’s postural stuff wouldn’t that just follow him forever? Not trying to be dramatic, just confused.
Draymond declining the option just means he didn’t want to be in the doghouse, right? And Horford re-signing too like they’re all just juggling roles. Porzingis looked amazing in that Clippers game, then ankle goes boom and suddenly he’s minus-22. I get injuries happen but why keep paying big money when it’s always something.
