War flares again, and Trump faces midterms’ cost

The war is shaping up as a risk for Trump’s Republican Party, with midterm elections in November. Trump has said the elections – and worries about the economy – don’t factor into his decisions about the war. But his party and advisers likely are wary of the potential damage with voters from a raging conflict that drives up the price of gas and other goods. The president also does not want to be seen by voters as having dragged the United States into another costly
Middle East quagmire. Much like in Lebanon, the U.S. and Israel are increasingly striking a different tone on Iran. In negotiations, the U.S. has had as its top priorities a resolution of Iran’s nuclear program and the free passage of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Israel, long concerned about Iran’s nuclear program, also sees a historic opportunity to degrade Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal and its support for armed groups across the region. Despite all the talks, there is little sign of Iran being prepared
to make concessions on its enriched material and the future of its nuclear program. Gulf Arab states are eager to end the conflict as quickly as possible. Before the April ceasefire halted most of the fighting, Iranian airstrikes damaged infrastructure across the region. Airports, desalination plants, aluminum smelters and oil facilities were all targeted.
Middle East war, Trump, midterm elections, gas prices, economy, Iran negotiations, nuclear program, Strait of Hormuz, Israel ballistic missiles, armed groups, April ceasefire, infrastructure damage
Gas prices gonna keep going up no matter what they say.
So like Trump is saying midterms don’t matter but the whole thing is about voters getting mad?? Make it make sense. Also why are we even involved again if they’re “just negotiating” lol.
I don’t buy the nuclear part… feels like this is really about missiles and oil, not nukes. If Iran struck airports and stuff (desal plants too?) then that’s on them, but somehow we’re still the ones paying? And Strait of Hormuz always gets mentioned like it’s just a traffic jam, not a real choke point.
It says April ceasefire halted fighting but then it’s still “war flares again” like wtf are they even counting as over. I swear the article is basically saying Israel gets what they want and Iran won’t give concessions, so we’re stuck watching gas rise for no reason. Maybe Trump doesn’t want another Lebanon situation?? But the wording is confusing, like Lebanon is the same thing as Middle East quagmire, right?
