Walmart recall of Great Value frozen fruit expands to include Organic Triple Berry Blend

Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur has expanded its Walmart recall to include a lot of Great Value Frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend due to a possible E. coli O145 contamination.

The recall affects products distributed to select Walmart stores across 16 states.

The recall, announced on Sept. 2, covers the Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend 10 oz, which includes strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. The affected lot bears the UPC 7874211226, lot code 6040 01-6 and a “best if used by” date of Feb. 9, 2028.

The recall was initiated as a precautionary measure following traceback information from a previous recall of frozen organic IQF blueberries by the same company.

E. coli O145 is a Shiga toxin-producing bacterium that can lead to severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. While most people recover within a week, it can cause serious complications like hemolytic uremic syndrome in vulnerable populations, including young children and the elderly.

Consumers urged to discard or return affected berry blend

The recall notice advises consumers to either discard the affected Great Value frozen fruit product or return it to Walmart for a full refund.

The product was shipped to Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.

“Consumers who have Great Value Organic Triple Berry 10 oz with lot code 6040 01-6 should not consume it,” the recall notice states.

Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur is collaborating with regulatory authorities to address the issue. The company is also working with its customers to ensure the Walmart recall is effectively communicated and managed.

Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur says it has not received any reports of illness related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In August, Walmart recalled one specific lot of Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter distributed in 19 states due to potential Salmonella contamination.
