Vin Diesel Announces Fast Forever Production Resumes

After years of uncertainty and false starts, Vin Diesel says production for Fast Forever has begun, thanking fans for their patience since Fast X premiered in 2023. The film is set for a March 17, 2028 theatrical release, with several franchise regulars return

By the time Vin Diesel posted his update, the anxiety around Fast Forever had already stretched for years—long enough for fans to wonder whether the “finale” was even still being built. This week, the franchise’s public face stepped in with a clear message: production has started.

Before the weekend, Diesel used Instagram to announce that filming is underway. In his video, he said “people are grinding and incredible crews are working,” framing the work as an all-hands effort to get the movie to the finish line.

He has spent much of the project’s troubled stretch keeping the conversation alive—talking through grievances with Universal and promising a release date even as Fast Forever’s prospects looked increasingly unclear without potential creative and financial concessions. Now. with wheels back on the road. Diesel returned to what has become his most reliable tool: turning the franchise’s most impatient fans into his partners.

Diesel thanked “the best fans in the world” for waiting through the long silence since Fast X premiered in 2023. “You’ve been patient to the industry and the studio, and you’ve been patient with me,” he said. He added that, “Over the past three-and-a-half years, we’ve been grinding to make the most amazing finale. […] Know that I hope to make you all proud.”.

As of this past January, the film is set to bring back multiple franchise veterans: Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson, and Gal Gadot.

Still, not everything is settled. There are question marks around whether other characters from the most recent era will return. including Sung Kang and Nathalie Emmanuel. who respectively play Han and Ramsey. The uncertainty lands with extra weight because those two were last seen with Roman and Tej on the plane that crashed.

Even bigger is the unresolved issue of Brian O’Conner, played by Paul Walker. Diesel previously promised back in 2025 that the character would be brought back, but it remains unclear how—or if—Fast Forever will deliver on that promise.

Those questions are expected to be answered when Fast Forever opens in theaters on March 17, 2028. For fans who have watched the project lurch through false starts for three years, that date finally feels less like a promise and more like a countdown to something real.

  1. So like… Han and Ramsey might not be coming back? But weren’t they on that plane crash with Roman and Tej or whatever. How do you even do a finale if half the people are gone. This feels like it’s gonna get delayed again too.

  2. Vin Diesel always says “production has started” and then it’s like nope. Also they better figure out Brian O’Conner part, because Paul Walker is the whole reason I watched the first place. If they try to CGI him again I’m gonna roll my eyes.

  3. Wait, Dwayne Johnson is coming back but Gal Gadot too? That’s a random mashup lol. I swear Universal just drags stuff out until the actors all sign on again. March 2028 is crazy, but maybe it’ll be worth it if they finally connect the plane crash thing and bring Brian back, right?
