FRISCO, Texas — The video now in the public record captures a moment right after the attack: Karmelo Anthony bursts from behind a tent, then runs out across the track and down the bleachers amid a commotion at a high school track meet.
In the footage released by a Texas court, people gather near the far left-hand corner as the scene erupts. Anthony is seen running away from the area where the confrontation turned fatal. One clip shows him moments after he is handcuffed at the scene. As an officer approaches, the officer calls him the alleged suspect.
Anthony responds, “I’m not alleged. I did it.”
In another part of the video, his voice breaks as he appears to be sobbing. “He put his hands on me. I told him not to. He put his hands on me,” Anthony tells officers as they escort him away. He adds, “I was just protecting myself.”
The materials were released by the 296th District Court and made public on Friday—less than two weeks after a jury convicted Anthony, 19, of murder in connection to Austin Metcalf’s death. Metcalf was 17.
The evidence set includes crime scene photos. police body-camera footage. 911 recordings. and images of evidence presented to jurors during the trial. Several photos include graphic depictions of Metcalf’s fatal wound. as well as blood-stained clothing. and the knife prosecutors identified as the murder weapon.
The case grew out of an April 2025 confrontation between Anthony and Metcalf during a weather delay at a high school track meet in Frisco. Prosecutors said Anthony initiated the violence and stabbed Metcalf to death. Defense attorneys argued Anthony feared for his safety and acted in self-defense.
On June 9, a jury rejected Anthony’s self-defense claim, and he was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

So he said he did it? That’s crazy. I don’t get how they even debated self defense.
Video shows him running, but half these news stories always leave out the part where the other dude started it. Weather delay too like… why are people fighting at all then.
Wait is this the same Karmelo Anthony from the NBA? Like people keep saying “Anthony” and I’m just confused. If he’s 19 then why is it taking this long to release the stuff?? Also, the cop says “alleged suspect” and he says “I’m not alleged” like… ok.
Self defense but he’s stabbing and then running down the bleachers… sure. I wonder if the weather delay counts as “provocation” or something. And why are they putting graphic photos out, like okay we get it, but still seems extra. 35 years feels either way too much or not enough depending on what really happened.
