A free neighbourhood festival is coming to Victoria in June, drawing more than 2,000 people to Banfield Park on June 6.
Vic West Festival will include music, dance, food and family-friendly activities.
The event, hosted by Victoria West Community Association, will start with a performance of Lekwungen traditional dancers and will feature performances by the West Coast Soul Collective, local queer-led pop punk band Dripping Fins, Slim Sandy and the Hillbilly Boppers, and West African rhythm group Poncho YBF.
The free festival will run from noon till 6 p.m., showcasing local performers, community organizations and interactive activities that celebrate the vibrant Victoria West.
Those looking to join in can head over to the BC Hydro Interactive Stage and learn to move with a Soca Fit or Belly Dance demo, and find their flow with Tai Chi.
Here too, family members of all ages can sit back and enjoy the fan-favourite dog show or the new drag storytime event.
A kids’ zone will include a bouncy castle, obstacle course, crafts and refreshments.
A food security seedling sale, dragon boat experiences with VI Paddle, a 50/50 raffle, Point Hope Maritime vendor market, and food trucks will be other festival attractions for the attendees.
A licensed drinks area hosted by Spinnakers will also be available.
Attendees are encouraged to walk, bike, or take transit to the festival.
Free bike valet service will be provided, with no public parking available on-site.
