US Strikes Iran’s Qeshm Island Amid Ongoing Conflict and Talks

The United States reportedly struck Iran’s Qeshm Island on Monday, marking the latest in a series of secretive, limited military actions conducted by Washington in recent weeks. The reported operation coincided with statements from President Donald Trump suggesting potential progress in ongoing negotiations with Tehran aimed at resolving the eight-month-old conflict.

Citing unnamed American officials, reports indicated that the strike targeted Qeshm Island, which stands as the largest landmass situated in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media agency IRNA corroborated that residents heard five explosions occurring in rapid succession across the island, with some eyewitnesses reporting two aircraft flying overhead during the incident.

Official military channels offered no immediate clarification regarding the incident late Monday. The Pentagon directed inquiries concerning the reported operation to the U.S. Central Command, which did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

According to the reporting, the United States has maintained a pattern of smaller-scale, undisclosed military actions against Iran for several weeks. Officials characterized these operations as defensive measures intended to deter Iranian forces from restricting commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The vital maritime corridor has remained largely obstructed since the outbreak of hostilities in late February, severely impacting global energy transit.

Washington chose to keep these limited strikes out of the public view to avoid signaling any broader intention to resume major combat operations in the region. The latest military action unfolded against the domestic backdrop of the United States midterm elections, taking place on the eve of the vote.

Amid the concurrent military activity and diplomatic efforts, President Trump told observers on Monday that an agreement with Tehran “could happen.” The signal of potential diplomatic resolution generated an immediate reaction in global financial markets, where oil prices plunged by more than seven percent following months of sharp increases driven by the energy corridor’s blockade.
