North Korea Dismisses US Claims Over Massive Crypto Heist

North Korea has rejected American allegations connecting the state to a massive cryptocurrency theft from the Binance platform, condemning the claims as familiar and groundless accusations.

State media agency KCNA reported the response on Tuesday, following an announcement made over the weekend by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The U.S. law enforcement agency stated that North Korea was responsible for stealing more than $6 billion in virtual assets from the exchange, a crime that could rank among the largest financial heists in history.

Kim Yo Jong, an influential ruling party official and sister of leader Kim Jong Un, issued a statement addressing the U.S. findings. She asserted that the FBI was attempting to brand the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea as a cybercriminal state by claiming an affiliated hacking organization participated in the incident.

“The FBI is trying to brand the DPRK as a ‘cyber criminal state,’ claiming that it obtained information that a hacking organization ‘supported’ by the DPRK was involved in the incident,” KCNA quoted Kim as saying.

Rejecting the assertion directly, she characterized the accusations as a recurring pattern of hostile narrative-building. “But the US assertion is an absurd rhetoric and nothing new,” Kim stated.

Furthermore, Pyongyang framed the investigation and public statements as an intentional diplomatic attack rather than a standard law enforcement action. “It is a grave political provocation against the DPRK that the us misleads the international public opinion as if all the cyber crimes in different parts of the world are our deeds,” Kim added.
