Uber rolls out World Cup shuttles, savings and group rides

Uber is aiming to smooth that part of the World Cup experience with new rideshare options. route guidance and targeted discounts in host cities.

Uber Shuttle services are scheduled to launch to four U.S. match venues: Miami, Dallas, Boston and New York/New Jersey. The shuttles will run immediately after games to get riders back to their hotels more easily and at a set price. Shuttle tickets will cost a flat $45 in Miami. Dallas and Boston. or $49 in New York. and they come with no surge pricing. Riders can book a seat in advance by tapping the shuttle icon in the Uber app. then presenting the in-app QR code when they board.

For fans traveling in bigger groups, Uber is also introducing Uber Max, designed for up to 14 passengers traveling to or from the stadium during the tournament in New York, Miami and Los Angeles. Uber Max can be ordered on-demand or booked ahead using the Hourly tile on the app’s home screen.

Uber’s next change is aimed at the moments people usually dread: finding the right pickup spot after landing. and avoiding the worst of the stadium congestion. The app is enhancing in-app directions across airports and stadiums. At all host city airports in the U.S. Canada and Mexico. new turn-by-turn directions will guide riders from their gate to the Uber pickup zone. At stadiums. the app can help users navigate to less congested pickup areas in San Francisco. Seattle. Atlanta. Los Angeles. Vancouver and Toronto.

Uber is also offering a new Travel Pass meant to stretch savings across a trip, not just one city. Travel Pass provides 14 days of savings on rides and food deliveries outside a rider’s home city. Pricing will be $4.99 in U.S. host cities, $1.99 in Mexico and $3.99 in Canada. The company says the pass offers up to $85 in total savings. including 20% off one airport pickup (up to $10 maximum). 10% off up to three city rides (up to $10 maximum each). and 10% off up to three Uber Eats orders (up to $15 maximum each). Uber describes it as valid for country-wide travel. though it appears users must be in a host city and outside their home city to purchase it.

Passes can be bought in the Account section of the Uber app starting June 1. Each pass will be valid for 14 days, and customers can choose which day the pass begins.

Food plans during match weeks get a separate boost. Uber says Dine Out on Uber Eats — which lets users book restaurant reservations in the app through OpenTable — is now offering 30% Uber Cash earnings on Dine Out meals in U.S. host cities during the World Cup. The process is straightforward: make a reservation through Dine Out in the Uber Eats app. then upload a photo of a receipt before leaving the restaurant. Uber says riders will earn 30% Uber Cash on each meal, up to $35, during the tournament. The perk is available for people in host cities during the tournament, even if they aren’t attending matches.

There’s also a game-day twist for supporters whose teams don’t make it through. Uber says it plans “Defeat Deals. ” meaning that if a team is eliminated from the tournament. riders will receive a 30% discount on a future ride. “so you can leave the packed bars. game-day crowds. and heartbreak behind. ” according to the brand.

In the end, Uber’s World Cup push is built around the same problem travelers feel every time major events hit: getting around quickly, finding the right pickup spot, and keeping costs from stacking up at the moments when plans get messy.

  1. I don’t trust Uber “no surge” lol. Like it’ll probably spike the second everyone crowds the pickup spot. Also $45?? that’s steep.

  2. Wait are the shuttles only for the World Cup like from the airport to the stadium? I thought this was just regular Uber rides. The QR code thing sounds nice but knowing my luck the code won’t load when I’m tired. Then they’ll be like “not our problem.”

  3. They say “no surge pricing” but Uber always finds a way. Flat price, right, until you miss the pickup and they start charging extra for “time” or whatever. Miami $45 and New York $49, okay, but parking is already insane. Also why only those cities? People in Philly are gonna be left out or what?
