Mexico City felt different the moment Tyla stepped into the spotlight—singing the South African national anthem just before her home country took to the field for the tournament’s opening Group A match against Mexico.

She leaned into the moment with a bold clear-heel look: Jeffrey Campbell’s “Booyah” style sandal. built around a wedge heel with a cutout and a wide transparent vinyl strap. A metallic ring detail around the heel gave the design an unmistakable finish. The shoe comes in a white version retailing for $170 and a tan suede version retailing for $195.

For the ceremony, Tyla paired the heels with a color-blocked body-con dress that was sleeveless, knee-length, and slightly flared at the hem. Her hair was styled in an updo, with a lock falling down from the bun—clean lines that kept the focus where she wanted it: on the shoes and the performance.

The choice landed in a bigger pattern of risk-taking that has defined her red carpet and stage moments. At the 2026 Met Gala. she was outfitted head-to-toe in Valentino Garavani. including aquamarine Open Toe Révélé Pumps with a dramatic front cutout. She’s also worn Christian Louboutin’s So Kate Pump and Miu Miu slingback pumps in more classic, formal settings.

But performance shoes are where her range shows. At the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards—where she both hosted and performed—she moved through multiple silhouettes, including Rene Caovilla’s Cleo Satin Crystal Snake Wrap sandals, Nike Dunk Low sneakers, and gladiator-style sandals.

Her World Cup appearance is also tied to her music. “Game Time,” her track with Future from the official FIFA World Cup 2026™ album, is scheduled to be performed on Friday. The album features songs from artists including Daddy Yankee, Jelly Roll, Shakira, the Rolling Stones and more. In an official release. Tyla described the moment as personal: “Being part of the official FIFA World Cup 2026™ album feels like a full circle moment — from South Africa hosting the World Cup in 2010. I’m so excited to perform at the opening ceremonies!. Let’s go Bafana Bafana.”.

The tournament itself begins June 11 and runs through July 19, with 48 countries competing across 104 matches.

Tyla’s next stop is already set. She is slated to appear at the U.S. opening ceremony in Los Angeles on Friday, joining a lineup that includes Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, Lisa, and Rema—before the U.S. Men’s National Team faces Paraguay in Inglewood, Calif.
