Twilight’s Best Installment Leaves HBO Max Soon

Robert Pattinson is juggling major releases this year — including The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three — even as his old Twilight hit, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is set to be removed from HBO Max soon, along with its follow-ups. Eclipse, widely viewed as the fran
Robert Pattinson’s 2024 has the kind of momentum that doesn’t slow down — and it’s showing up in two different worlds at once. He starred alongside Zendaya in the critically acclaimed cringe comedy The Drama. which hit as a word-of-mouth hit in theaters earlier this year. The Drama grossed more than $130 million worldwide against a reported budget of $28 million.
This year also finds Pattinson and Zendaya sharing the screen in two more films. The Odyssey is directed by Christopher Nolan and is set for a later July theatrical run. Then comes Dune: Part Three, directed by Denis Villeneuve, which will debut theatrically in December.
But while Pattinson moves forward with new fantasy and sci-fi scale. a major stop in his past is about to disappear from HBO Max. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse — the third installment of the Twilight franchise — is currently streaming on the service and will be removed soon. along with its two follow-ups: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2.
Part of what makes Eclipse stand out is that it remains the franchise entry many viewers point to as the strongest of the five films. None of the five installments is rated “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, though Eclipse is “considerably better” than the others. It was directed by David Slade, who took over from Chris Weitz and Catherine Hardwicke. The movie grossed $760 million worldwide against a reported budget of $68 million, and it received mixed reviews from critics.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Eclipse holds a 46% score, with the consensus reading: “Stuffed with characters and overly reliant on uninspired dialogue, Eclipse won’t win The Twilight Saga many new converts, despite an improved blend of romance and action fantasy.”
For HBO Max viewers, the window is clear: Eclipse can be watched on the platform until July 1.
That timing lands right in the middle of the year’s bigger theatrical calendar for Pattinson. The Odyssey arrives in theaters later in July, and Dune: Part Three follows in December.
