Tua Tagovailoa’s wife is sharing some insight into the social media mishap earlier this week when the NFL star “congratulated himself.”
Fans are now getting some clarity on Tua Tagovailoa’s viral social media mishap.
The Atlanta Falcons quarterback was accused of using a burner account to hype himself up. The Instagram post was made on September 1, showing the Falcons quarterback on the field in a candid shot holding a football.
“To the A,” the caption read, alongside a salute emoji.
The post didn’t call for a viral moment, but it was the comment underneath that was from Tagovailoa’s account that read, “We’re so proud of you, you got this,” adding a red heart emoji that caught fans’ attention.
Fans quickly caught on to Tagovailoa’s mistake and flooded the comment section, repeating the comment. Other fans began accusing Tagovailoa of a burner account, poking fun at the athlete.
“Bro forgot to switch to his burner,” a fan wrote.
The accusations got Annah, Tagovailoa’s wife, to speak out about the social media flub.
“No burner account! I was busy with the kids this morning and forgot to switch back to my account..” she wrote. “He’s busy at work as he’s said he doesn’t have social media and I post on his behalf! Will pay more attention next time.”
Tagovailoa will be entering his first season with the Falcons this month following his release from the Miami Dolphins. He signed with the Falcons back in March.
“ATL, I’m excited for this new opportunity. Let’s get to work. Rise up,” Tagovailoa shared on Instagram following his signing.
As for Tua and Annah’s relationship, the two got married in 2022 and share two children together: a son named Ace and a daughter named Maisey.
Last month, the couple announced that they are expecting their third child together.
“Baby Tagovailoa #3 coming soon Our hearts are so full,” the couple shared in a joint post.
As of this writing, the Falcons have not announced a QB1, and it’s unclear who will be chosen given some injuries on their roster. Tagovailoa had a tight back injury in July but was able to return to preseason after the flare-up, and Michael Penix Jr., who was the starting quarterback last season, has not participated in preseason practices following his ACL injury in November. The Falcons’ season opener will be against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. ET.
