President Donald Trump issued an Election Day warning to voters in Alaska on Tuesday, urging them to make sure they vote for the “real” Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and not the primary challenger with the same name who will also appear on the ballot.

“ALASKA: Be careful, VOTE FOR THE REAL DAN SULLIVAN TODAY,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Through me, he’s brought HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS BACK TO YOUR STATE. The Dumocrats know how good he is and have put up an imposter of the same name.”

Trump told voters to select the “INCUMBENT SENATOR,” adding: “Don’t let these Fraudsters get away with this HOAX. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The intervention comes as Alaskans prepare to head to the polls Tuesday in a Senate contest that could help determine the balance of power in Congress.

Two-term Republican Senator Dan S. Sullivan is seeking another term, but voters will also see Dan J. Sullivan, a retired fifth-grade teacher and self-described “moderate Republican,” on the ballot.

The unusual match-up has prompted allegations from the incumbent and the president that the challenger is attempting to confuse voters. Trump had already sounded the alarm on Friday, accusing Democrats of orchestrating the situation.

“Because of the trickery in the Voting, the Crooked, Radical Left Dumocrats have put up another man named ‘Dan Sullivan,’ and they did this to take Votes away from our Great Senator of the same name. Democrats are trying to ‘trick’ Alaskans, and treat Alaskan Voters with contempt,” Trump wrote before the weekend.

Alaska Democrats and the campaign of Democratic candidate Mary Peltola have denied any involvement with his candidacy while Dan J. Sullivan has defended his candidacy, which survived a legal challenge when the Alaska Supreme Court in June upheld a lower court decision allowing him to remain on the ballot. The dispute has also drawn a Justice Department investigation.

“I have every right to stand up and do this,” he told the Petersburg Pilot earlier this summer. “It’s my name, my grandfather’s name: Dan Sullivan. My dad’s name: Dan Sullivan.”

Under Alaska’s nonpartisan primary system, the top four finishers advance to November’s ranked-choice general election, meaning both Sullivans could ultimately make the cut.
