The chaos of April 25 still hung over Washington when President Donald Trump said he’s prepared to show up at the next White House Correspondents’ Dinner—this time, with a different address and a sharper tone.
Trump confirmed he will attend the rescheduled event at The Waldorf Astoria, a date of July 24, and he framed the return as a test of whether the disruption that ended the prior dinner on April 25 can truly change anything.
The original White House Correspondents’ Dinner was scheduled for April 25, but it erupted into chaos after a gunman fired several shots. Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and other members of the Trump administration were quickly evacuated.
At first, Trump reportedly wanted the original dinner to resume and continue as planned. But the event was cancelled for security purposes.
On Tuesday. Semafor media editor Maxwell Tani reported that White House Correspondents’ Association President Weijia Jiang emailed members to announce the new date. In those screenshots shared by Tani. Jiang did not specify a precise location. saying only that the dinner would be held in Washington. D.C.
Trump later confirmed the decision in a post on his Truth Social. He wrote that the White House Correspondents’ Dinner—“which violently ended rather abruptly on April 25th”—would be rescheduled to July 24. He said he was asked to attend and speak, and he accepted.
In the same post, Trump attacked the idea that the incident should disrupt the schedule or the broader cultural norm. “We cannot allow Lunatics to change our way of life, or even its scheduling,” he wrote.
Trump also turned to the location. While the April 25 dinner was held at the Hilton, Trump said the rescheduled event would be at The Waldorf Astoria. The Waldorf Astoria operated as the Trump International Hotel from 2016 to 2022. and Trump said he redeveloped the building. formerly a government-owned post office.
He wrote: “Interestingly, the location will be The Waldorf Astoria, on Pennsylvania Avenue, a Building and Ballroom that I built.”
Trump signaled he may adjust his remarks once he arrives, writing, “I don’t know whether or not I will give the same rather nasty statements, at least as it concerns certain people, but we will soon find out.” He added that it would be a “HOT” ticket.
The sequence from April 25 to July 24 leaves little room to miss the stakes: a dinner that was meant to be routine was forced into evacuation by gunfire, and the rescheduling now comes with both a new venue and Trump using the moment to assert control over what happens next.
For now, the White House Correspondents’ Association has set July 24, and Trump has made clear he intends to be there—speaking at an event that will return to public view after an attack cut it short.

July 24 better be safe this time or what even is the point.
Wait so he’s going back after getting evacuated?? I mean I get “don’t let chaos win” but also that’s literally the opposite of smart security-wise. Sounds like politics more than safety.
Isn’t the WHCD like always at the same place? Waldorf Astoria just sounds like another rich hotel flex. Also when they say “gunman fired shots” people act like that’s just background noise, like bro no.
He’s gonna go and “sharper tone” like it’s a comeback tour. I heard somewhere it was cancelled because of fireworks or something? Idk, media mixes it up. But honestly if he wants to prove a point, couldn’t he just… not go? Seems like daring somebody again.
